The problem so far
The Palms offense could be one for the ages. They have 257 runs this year, good for 4th in the league and not too far behind their division rivals New York, Boston and Toronto, all of whom have 260. Even then, they haven't driven in runs as effectively as one might hope, stranding 374 runners. Their batting average as a team is over .300, on pace for the best in the modern era, and 7 regular starters are hitting at or above .300.
Clearly, this is not why they are 4 games below .500. Instead, their atrocious pitching thus far is to blame. Even typically reliable Troy Munoz has struggled with his ERA well above 5.00. Making matters worse has been the porous bullpen. Dennis Sarfate has the best ERA at 3.62, and the team has often let games get away late.
The pitching staff needs an infusion of talent or for the current roster to shape up. The offense is definitely pulling their weight.
