Jarod Lantz is having a season

The full statistical figuring may not necessarily give the numbers away, but as it turns out, Jarod Lantz has clearly been the best starting pitcher the Palms have had this season. Lantz, Manny Parra and Erick Fedde are all producing ERAs in the 3.00s, with Parra's 3.15 the best of the bunch.  Parra has had a very good year, and his underlying statistics bear that out. Lantz, however, has a better strikeour rate, and has produced a FIP nearly a full run better than Parra, and more than a run better than his ERA. If he was able to produce an ERA that matched his FIP, it is easy to speculate that he might be a candidate for the Cy Young. As it stands, Lantz has been plagued with some late inning trouble, not entirely his fault, and poor run support. The metrics are good, but the optics are not. Continued success at this level, though, will be needed if the Miami wants to climb back into contention.

Rays 6. Palms 3

Tampa was able to claim the final game of their series with Miami as they battered Dylan Bundy, knocking him out after 2 2/3 innings. The Palms rested a handful of players, particularly their big hitters in the middle of the lineup, but Nick Markakis and Yasmani Grandal each homered to keep the game respectable. It was a commendable effort from the bullpen as well.  Tampa Bay Rays 6, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, July 28, 2019      Miami Palms (54-54)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (4-6)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   A...

Palms 8, Rays 6

Miami jumped to an early lead again against the Rays, scoring 6 times between the 3rd and 5th inning. Fortunately, they tacked on another run with a Wellington Castillo solo bop in the 7th, because Tampa came through with a 6 run bottom of the 8th to put a scare into the Palms. Chris Korb tallied his 4th RBI of the contest with a double in the 9th to conclude the scoring.   Miami Palms 8, Tampa Bay Rays 6  Saturday, July 27, 2019      Miami Palms (54-53)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (3-6)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A ...

Palms 8, Rays 2

The Palms took a day off and came into Tampa energized. Jarod Lantz was excellent, save for one mistake to Travis d'Arnaud, who hit a 2 run homer. The combined efforts of Tampa Bay's pitching staff was less successful. Diego Castillo's first inning couldn't have been much worse, as he loaded the bases, with Miami scoring twice before rookie Matt Koch hit a grand slam, only his 3rd career home run. The Rays pitchers were effective until the 8th inning, when the Palms got on the board again, as Koch hit his 4th career homer, this time a solo shot. Miami will attempt to claim the series with a win tomorrow evening.   Miami Palms 8, Tampa Bay Rays 2  Friday, July 26, 2019      Miami Palms (53-53)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (3-5)                               ...

Tigers 6, Palms 4

The Tigers came from behind to take out the Palms, and prevent a home sweep on Wednesday afternoon. Miami scored three times in the first, and grabbed another run in the 2nd on a Nick Markakis home run, but failed to add to their lead. The Tigers were down 4-2 in the 8th, when a pitch was left up to Christin Stewart, and with the bases loaded, Stewart hit it over the fence, and gave Miami a 2 run deficit that they could not overcome.  Detroit Tigers 6, Miami Palms 5  Wednesday, July 24, 2019      Detroit Tigers (2-5)                                     Miami Palms (52-53)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player      ...

Palms 5, Tigers 3 10 innings

The Palms had three home runs, and they were all timely. Jaspero Gonzalez put the Palms on the board in the 2nd, and after the Tigers had a three run double from Nick Castellanos, Chris Korb tied it in the 6th with a solo shot. A 2 run shot from Nick Markakis with 2 out in the bottom of the 10th allowed Miami to walk off winners, finally arriving back at .500.  Miami Palms 5, Detroit Tigers 3  Tuesday, July 23, 2019      Detroit Tigers (1-4)                                     Miami Palms (52-52)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave...

Palms 4, Tigers 3

The Palms batted around, scoring 3 and loading the bases in the 4th, but this ended up being decided in the bullpen. Jeimer Candelario hit a game tying 2 run homer off of Cody Allen in the 8th, but in the bottom of the frame, Travis Jankowski had a bit of timely hitting to bring in the go ahead run for Miami. Chris Martin had a 1-2-3 9th to take the series opener from Detroit.  Miami Palms 4, Detroit Tigers 3  Monday, July 22, 2019      Detroit Tigers (1-3)                                     Miami Palms (51-52)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...
