White Sox 6, Palms 5

The Palms fought two opponents on Sunday afternoon, the White Sox and the white stuff on a snowy Chicago day. Jarod Lantz didn't adapt well, and gave up his 6 runs through a rocky 4 innings of work, including a 3 hit, 3RBI day to Yonder Alonso. The bullpen did better, giving up only one hit to the Sox in their combined 4 innings of work. The Palms collected 14 hits off of Sox pitching, but their bats were frozen in clutch situations. They finally broke through in the 7th, scoring 5 runs late, but missed opportunities early in the game did ultimately cost Miami. They will take a day off and travel to warmer climes, with 3 in Houston and Los Angeles before a return to Miami.   Chicago White Sox 6, Miami Palms 5  Sunday, April 14, 2019      Miami Palms (4-12)                                       Chicago White Sox (3-0)          ...

White Sox 7, Palms 1

It appears as though not much has changed after the Friday meeting. The Palms scratched the first run across the plate in the second, but in the bottom of the frame, Yonder Alonso hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of that same inning, and the White Sox never looked back. The Palms were able to hit Ivan Nova fairly consistently, but just couldn't come through when it counted. The White Sox, on the other hand, strung their hits together, and had a big fly, something Miami is in a drought for. The Palms will try to reset and grab one game out of this series on Sunday afternoon, sending Jarod Lantz to the mound.  Chicago White Sox 7, Miami Palms 1  Saturday, April 13, 2019      Miami Palms (4-11)                                       Chicago White Sox (2-0)                              ...

Veterans call players only meeting

Frank Sohn, Cody Allen, Chris Korb and Manny Parra are alleged to have kicked the manager out of the locker room after their big loss to the White Sox on Friday. While nobody would go on record to say what had been said, reporters could hear voices being raised from the typically soft spoken quartet.  Surely, the 4-10 record to start the season, and garish ERA coming from several relievers, as well as an impotent heart of the order were sore subjects. The Palms have had success, even as recently as last year, and the four team leaders are good representatives of those successful times. They've started 4-10, but there is still time for the young and the struggling to turn it around.

White Sox 11, Palms 3

If you just watched the Palms get singles from their first 4 batters, scoring two runs in the process, you would be led to believe that this game would end differently. Miami would only end up with 4 more hits, and starter Lucas Giolito would go 7 strong innings, while his White Sox teammates behind him would get into gear. They mashed 4 home runs and sent 11 to the plate in the 5th inning, making sure Erick Fedde had a short night. The Palms try to get back to winning ways tomorrow in Chicago.  Chicago White Sox 11, Miami Palms 3  Friday, April 12, 2019      Miami Palms (4-10)                                       Chicago White Sox (1-0)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB  ...

Frank Sohn shot out of a cannon

For all the struggles the Palms are having this season, Frank Sohn seems oblivious. The veteran right fielder started his career as a lead off hitter, and has taken to it with aplomb on his return to the spot. Through the first 13 games of the season has collected 6 doubles and a .460 average. Despite not having a home run yet this season, his OPS is over 1.000. If the players behind him can start putting it together, this rough start to the season will be a mere afterthought before too much longer.

Palms 6, Orioles 3

It took a couple of weeks, but Miami finally has it's first winning streak of the season. The Palms jumped to an early start with a two run home run from Yasmani Grandal, and kept tacking runs on here and there. Hanser Alberto put a scare into the Palms with a three run homer in the 4th, but by that point, Miami had managed to extend their total to 5. Frank Sohn and Brock Holt each had three hits, and Grandal drove in three runs. After an off day on Thursday, the Palms will head to Chicago to face the White Sox.  Miami Palms 6, Baltimore Orioles 3  Wednesday, April 10, 2019      Miami Palms (4-9)                                        Baltimore Orioles (1-2)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Palms 8, Orioles 2

It remains to be seen if demons have fully been exorcized, but the 7th and 8th innings of their Tuesday afternoon game with the Orioles was surely at least cathartic. They batted around in each inning, loading the bases multiple times and coming through with 7 runs. While the game ultimately wasn't a snug affair for the bullpen, the three innings of scoreless relief from Chris Martin was a welcome turn as well. After a long losing streak, the Palms will look forward to starting a winning streak when their series concludes on Wednesday.   Miami Palms 8, Baltimore Orioles 2  Tuesday, April 9, 2019      Miami Palms (3-9)                                        Baltimore Orioles (1-1)                                   Player          AB R  ...
