Palms ready for a homestand

Miami has spent much of their season to date on the road, but with the conclusion of their series in Seattle, they will be coming home for a 10 game home stand. There are some hot teams coming to Miami, but the Palms will look forward to a break in the heavy road schedule, especially considering their position a few games above .500 despite the difficult schedule. The next week will see the Palms square off with the Indians, Blue Jays and Rockies.

Mariners 2, Palms 1

There were three solo home runs inn this contest, and that was all the scoring there would be. For the Mariners, it was an absolute bomb from Dae Ho Lee and a game winner from Robinson Cano. The Palms got a long homer to dead center from Coco Crisp. Hisashi Iwakuma allowed only 3 hits, while Manny Parra scattered 5 in a quick, well pitched ball game.  Seattle Mariners 2, Miami Palms 1  Wednesday, June 22, 2016  Miami Palms (37-34)                                      Seattle Mariners (2-1)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Palms 9, Mariners 4

Fortunes were reversed last Tuesday in Seattle,as the Palms sacked three big home runs, including 2 in the 3rd inning. John Jaso hit a 3 run blast while Chris Korb followed up with a 2 run homer later in the inning. James Paxton settled down for the Mariners afterwards, but Frank Sohn chased him out with another 3 run homer in the 7th. Jarod Lantz pitched well, striking out 8 over 7 innings.  Miami Palms 9, Seattle Mariners 4  Tuesday, June 21, 2016  Miami Palms (37-33)                                      Seattle Mariners (1-1)                                   Player          ...

Mariners 8, Palms 3

Miami took a trip to Seattle for a weekend series with the Mariners, and it didn't get off to the start they had hoped for. After a decent start to Odrisamer Despaigne's outing, things fell apart in the 6th inning, when the Mariners batted around and scored 5 runs, including 2 on a Leonys Martin double. Martin accounted for 3 of the Mariners runs, while Norichika Aoki added 2 RBI.  Seattle Mariners 8, Miami Palms 3  Monday, June 20, 2016  Miami Palms (36-33)                                      Seattle Mariners (1-0)                                   Player          AB R  H...

Sohn, Korb to swap spots in the lineup

Frank Sohn has come around at the plate through the middle of the year, while Chris Korb's power has failed to develop, and his high average of a year ago is nowhere to be found. In order to protect Edwin Encarnacion at the plate, the Twins have decided to place multi-30 homerun season hitter Sohn behind him in the lineup, while Korb will see the pressure ease off of him evenn further. It is a long fall for Korb, who was batting in the top of the order to begin the season.

Palms 4, White Sox 2

The Palms smothered the White Sox in the final game of their three game set. TJ McFarland had a no-hitter through 5 and ultimately only allowed 4 hits in 8 inning. He also struck out 7. The Palms had 10 hits, including a solo home run from Tony Anreu, and scattered 4 runs across 4 different innings to claim a series win over the Southsiders.  Miami Palms 4, Chicago White Sox 2  Sunday, June 19, 2016  Miami Palms (36-32)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-5)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB ...

Palms 5, White Sox 2

James Shields and Blake Johnston have had high expectations, but have instead mostly been beleaguered this year. On Saturday afternoon, they were each very good, going 7 and 8 innings respectively, each allowing only 2 runs and striking out 10 and 9 respectively. The Palms scored both runs off the bat of Frank Sohn, with a home run and an RBI double 2 innings later, while the White Sox enjoyed a Dioner Navarro homer and an RBI single from Jose Abreu in the 6th to tie it. The Palms pulled in front in the 9th, though, batting around on Matt Purke. Frank Sohn scored what would ultimately be the game winning run, when Nick Markakis drove him in. Francisco Rodriguez made it interesting, loading the bases before earning his 13th save.  Miami Palms 5, Chicago White Sox 2  Saturday, June 18, 2016  Miami Palms (35-32)                           ...

White Sox 5, Palms 3

After getting swept in Miami, the White Sox fared much better in the series opener in Chicago. They jumped on Manny Parra early, hitting three home runs in the first two innings, including a two run blast from Avisail Garcia to give them a 4-0 lead. The Palms struggled in their come back attempt, routinely failing to follow through when they had good run scoring opportunities, but they did eke 3 runs across the plate, while leaving most of their baserunners stranded.  Chicago White Sox 5, Miami Palms 3  Friday, June 17, 2016  Miami Palms (34-32)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-3)                               ...

Dodgers 3, Palms 0

After battering Kenta Maeda, Los Angeles' pitching got a little tougher. Jarod Lantz was very good, holding the Dodgers to only 1 run through 8 2/3 before allowing a 2 run home run to Jake Turner. The Palms were held to only 4 hits by Scott Kazmir, their second shut out in a row, in which the Palms have accumulated only 7 hits between the two games.  Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Miami Palms 0  Thursday, June 16, 2016  Los Angeles Dodgers (2-1)                                Miami Palms (34-31)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Dodgers 10, Palms 0

The Palms now know what the fuss about Clayton Kershaw is all about. He struck out 11 over 7 innings, allowing only two hits and a walk. Joe Blanton came in for the final two frames and allowed only one more hit. The Dodgers' offense batted around in the 7th, including a three run home run from AJ Ellis, who had two home runs in the game, driving in 4 runs.  Los Angeles Dodgers 10, Miami Palms 0  Wednesday, June 15, 2016  Los Angeles Dodgers (1-1)                                Miami Palms (34-30)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  ...

Palms 7, Dodgers 1

The Palms welcomed the high priced Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday evening to open a series in Miami. The Palms were extremely efficient against Kenta Maeda, who allowed only 5 hits through 7 innings, but he had also allowed 5 runs. Already behind, the Dodgers let Maeda and his low pitch count continue to work. TJ McFarland worked 7 innings of shut out ball for the Palms. Edwin Encarnacion and Chris Korb had back to back home runs, while Coco Crisp drove in the eventual game winners in the 5th.  Miami Palms 7, Los Angeles Dodgers 1  Tuesday, June 14, 2016  Los Angeles Dodgers (0-1)                                Miami Palms (34-29)                                ...

Palms surge towards playoff positioning

Miami got off to a very sluggish start, but thanks to a recent string of very good play, including their recent sweep of the Chicago White Sox, they find themselves only 3 games out of first in the American League East and a half game out of the Wild Card spot. while their offense has been extremely effective, especially at the top of the order, a rotation featuring the excellent productivity of Manny Parra and rookie Jarod Lantz has anchored the team. This ability to float at or just above .500 is especially heartening, given how much time the team has spent on the road. certainly, there will be some regression for a couple of players, but some of the players who haven't yet started hitting like the Palms know they are capable of will definitely start taking off in the friendly confines of Palms Park.

Palms 11, White Sox 4

Through 4 innings, the game looked like it was giing to be a back and forth slugfest. The Palms scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first, while the White Sox responded with three of their own. Carlos Rodon was pulled after 3 innings and 4 Palms runs, while Blake Johnston allowed 4 through his first 4 innings. The Palms stuck with Johnston, who tightened up, while the White Sox bullpen fell to pieces. Miami batted around, thanks to a 2 run home run from Frank Sohn and a bases loaded Nick Markakis double and scored 6 runs in the 5th.Every Palms starter had at least one hit as Miami swept Chicago.  Miami Palms 11, Chicago White Sox 4  Sunday, June 12, 2016  Chicago White Sox (0-3)                                  Miami Palms (33-29)             ...

Palms 6, White Sox 0

In 18 innings, now, the Chicago White Sox are yet to see a reliever or score a run. Today, they had 7 hits against the Manny Parra, while striking out 5 times in a complete game game shut out. The Palms got ahead of the Sox early, scoring 3 runs in the first two innings. John Jaso and Nick Markakis each had 3 hits to set the pace for the offense.  Miami Palms 6, Chicago White Sox 0  Saturday, June 11, 2016  Chicago White Sox (0-2)                                  Miami Palms (32-29)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Palms 2, White Sox 0

In a pitching match up between Chris Sale and Jarod Lantz, the rookie pitcher likely couldn't have dreamed of it going this well. Lantz had a complete game shut out, allowing only three hits over 9 innings to better the superstar pitcher. The Palms only needed a two run home run from Kelly Johnson in the 7th to best the the White Sox on Friday night.  Miami Palms 2, Chicago White Sox 0  Friday, June 10, 2016  Chicago White Sox (0-1)                                  Miami Palms (31-29)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E L...

Red Sox 7, Palms 2

The Red Sox slugged three home runs on their way to a complete domination of the Palms on Wednesday afternoon. The Sox had 2 run shots from David Ortiz, Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts, all at junctures where it seemed like Miami was almost on the verge of figuring David Price out. The Boston pitcher, who has struggled to start the season, had 5 strikeouts over 9 innings, allowing only 2 runs on solo shots from Tony Abreu and Brett Hayes. The Red Sox, however, were never truly threatened.  Boston Red Sox 7, Miami Palms 2  Wednesday, June 8, 2016  Boston Red Sox (2-1)                                     Miami Palms (30-29)                             ...
