Starting Pitcher: Manny Parra

Manny Parra began his career as a starter out of Milwaukee before moving to the Palms, where he found a role as a closer and developed his skills and became one of the most dominant in the league. Knowing he could stretch and start, the Palms decided to bring him back into the starting fold and opted to spend most of teir money on the bullpen. Parra has been decent thus far, but not great. Still, no home runs allowed this year and his typical inherent ability to produce poor contact will likely serve him well.

Orioles 11, Palms 4

Due to the ongoing turmoil in the city of Baltimore, the Palms and Orioles had to postpone their past two games, and played today's game in an empty stadium. The game was a good one through most of the game until the bottom of the 8th inning, when the Orioles got to the Palms' bullpen. Adam Jones hit two home runs, including one off of John Danks and ended up driving in 4 of his teams' runs. It was too bad there wasn't anyone at the game: There were 7 home runs in total.  Baltimore Orioles 11, Miami Palms 4  Wednesday, April 29, 2015  Miami Palms (13-7)                                       Baltimore Orioles (1-0)                            ...

Red Sox 3, Palms 2

The Red Sox managed to get a solid pitching performance from Wade Miley, though he faltered in the 7th inning, and the Palms were able to score the necessary 2 runs to level the score Fortunately for Boston, the Red Sox bull pen was up to the task. Sandy Leon, Miley's battery mate took advantage of the stale mate to provide the only additional run needed, with a solo homer in the 8th. Frank Sohn struck out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to end the game.  Boston Red Sox 3, Miami Palms 2  Sunday, April 26, 2015  Boston Red Sox (1-2)                                     Miami Palms (13-6)                                 ...

Palms 5. Red Sox 2

A David Ortiz home run looked like it would be enough for much of the game, but when Justin Masterson left, the wild Matt Barnes came in. The Palms tied it when Billy Dupont led off with a home run, and then Barnes walked the bases loaded. With two outs, Chris Korb lined it down the line, clearing the bases and securing a victory.  Miami Palms 5, Boston Red Sox 2  Saturday, April 25, 2015  Boston Red Sox (0-2)                                     Miami Palms (13-5)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E ...

Palms 7, Red Sox 0

The Palms were able to continue their winning streak with a victory at home against the Red Sox. Manny Parra had a strong 7 innings, shutting he Sox out while allowing only 2 hits. Rick Porcello wasn't bad either, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings. The game was blown open as the Palms batted around in the 8th inning, with Nick Markakis driving in two of his three runs with a double.  Miami Palms 7, Boston Red Sox 0  Friday, April 24, 2015  Boston Red Sox (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (13-5)                                       Player       ...

Palms 4, Rays 3

Miami secured another series sweep thanks to a strong outing from Blake Johnston and good hitting at the top of the order. Tony Abreu continued his hot start with home run number 5, hit in the first inning, and an RBI in the 5th before Kelly Johnson hit what would ultimately be the game winning 2 run single. Steven Souza hit a home run in the 8th to make things appear a bit tighter than they actually were.  Miami Palms 4, Tampa Bay Rays 3  Thursday, April 23, 2015  Tampa Bay Rays (0-3)                                     Miami Palms (11-5)                                       Player    ...

Palms 4, Rays 1

John Danks did it again. He pitched a complete game, scattering 7 hits, striking out 5 and giving the Palms a chance to win. The real star of the show (since Danks is now becoming old hat) was Tony Abreu. He hit a home run in the first inning to put the Palms on the board and then followed that up with another big blast in the third. Abreu and Danks essentially won this game on their own.  Miami Palms 4, Tampa Bay Rays 1  Wednesday, April 22, 2015  Tampa Bay Rays (0-2)                                     Miami Palms (10-5)                                       Player       ...

Palms 9, Rays 1

After a rough series with the Angels, Miami got back to their winning ways with a dominant victory over their cross state rivals, the Rays of Tampa Bay. The Palms were on base constantly, with 16 hits and a walk, wile the Rays failed to convert on ample opportunity, stranding 9. Billy Dupont was able to collect 4 hits and as many RBI.  Miami Palms 9, Tampa Bay Rays 1  Tuesday, April 21, 2015  Tampa Bay Rays (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (9-5)                                        Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Relief pitcher: Pete Otterloop

The Palms worked hard to reconstruct their bullpen this season, but one of the holdovers is Pete Otterloop, the lanky righty now in his second season. He offers good control, but was the victim of bad luck last season, with a BABIP of .331 despite other decent peripherals. He was one of the pitchers retained because of all the promise he contains. He is off to a good start in 2015, and te Palms can only hope that continues.

Angels 5, Palms 3

The Angels were able to sweep Miami at Palms Park this weekend. On Sunday afternoonm it was through some timely hitting, particularly from CJ Cron who drove in 2 and had had 4 hits, of his teams' 12. Miami scored early but never challenged the Miami bullpen.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 5, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, April 19, 2015  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (3-0)                      Miami Palms (8-5)                                        Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB S...

Angels 11, Palms 2

It's always seemed as though the Angels have been the thorn in the side of the Miami Palms, and it seems that way again. The Angels took a while, but eventually got to Manny Parra, scoring 4 runs in his final 2 innings of work. They matched that, in part due to a CJ Cron home run in the 7th inning off of Keith Harding. CJ Wilson was in much better form, winning despite a pair of 8th inning home runs, as those were the only runs allowed.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 11, Miami Palms 2  Saturday, April 18, 2015  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2-0)                      Miami Palms (8-4)                                        Player       ...

Angels 8, Palms 5

Blake Johnston gave up his second home run of the season, but both of them have been a grand slams. The Palms came back to tie the game after Johnston left, but the Palms bullpen didn't help, allowing the Angels to grab an extra 4 runs, which was more than enough. Chris Iannetta went 5-5, and was a double away from the cycle.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8, Miami Palms 5  Friday, April 17, 2015  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1-0)                      Miami Palms (8-3)                                        Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player ...

Palms 5, Braves 1

The Palms got another brilliant start from John Danks, who hurled 8 innings and allowed only 1 run. The Palms did their damage with the long ball, scoring 4 runs by hitting 3 home runs, including a two run blast from Billy Dupont. Nick Markakis added a home run as well as another RBI as the Palms finished their road trip at 6-1.  Miami Palms 5, Atlanta Braves 1  Thursday, April 16, 2015  Miami Palms (8-2)                                        Atlanta Braves (1-3)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  ...

Palms 4, Braves 2

The Palms got another deep start, this one from Erik Bedard, and it was more than enough to secure victory. The Braves scored in the first on a solo home run from Cameron Maybin, but failed to make a dent for the next 7 innings against Bedard. The Palms scored twice in the first inning, but otherwise struggled against Trevor Cahill, who kept his pitch count low and was able to work 9 innings. Brett Hayes hit a home run that expanded the low, and meant Chris Johnson's homer in the 9th wasn't enough to tie things.  Miami Palms 4, Atlanta Braves 2  Wednesday, April 15, 2015  Miami Palms (7-2)                                        Atlanta Braves (1-2)                      ...

Palms 5, Braves 1

The Palms made it to first base quite frequently, generally with the help of Shelby Miller. The Palms were issued 5 walks in addition to their 9 hits, and sent everyone to the plate in the 1st inning, scoring 3. TJ McFarland had a heavy pitch load, but went into the 9th pitching a shutout. He lost it with two outs, but was able to recover and finish the game.  Miami Palms 5, Atlanta Braves 1  Tuesday, April 14, 2015  Miami Palms (6-2)                                        Atlanta Braves (1-1)                                     Player          AB R  H ...
