Blue Jays 1, Palms 0

Aaron Laffey and Dave Balierough, of all people, through a taut pitcher's duel. The Jays scored only when Colby Rasmus hit a two out double to drive in Jeff Mathis. The Palms managed only 4 hits against Laffey, and were unable to support their starter, losing for the first time this season to Toronto.  Toronto Blue Jays 1, Miami Palms 0  Tuesday, July 31, 2012  Miami Palms (53-51)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (1-5)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave     ...

Palms 7, Blue Jays 6

The Palms and Blue Jays duked it out in Toronto Monday night. Ricky Romero had a strange night. Through two innings, Romero had 6 strikeouts... but had allowed 5 runs, including a two run Jose Molina homer in the 2nd. The Palms sent 10 men to the plate that inning, scoring 4. The Palms needed to stay active at the plate as the Jays came back on Kevin Correia, but they were able to score the game winner in the 7th on an RBI single from Martin Prado, while Blake Johnston, Art McLoughlin and Manny Parra pitched three innings of solid relief.  Miami Palms 7, Toronto Blue Jays 6  Monday, July 30, 2012  Miami Palms (53-50)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (0-5)                   ...

Palms 11, Red Sox 2

The Palms took advantage of Felix Doubront's early control issues, even scoring when Jose Molina was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning. Things unraveled further for Doubront in the 4th when the Palms batted around and scored 5. The Palms also hit two home runs, from Molina and Billy Doupont to add to the misery, while Troy Munoz locked down the Red Sox over 8 solid innings.  Miami Palms 11, Boston Red Sox 2  Sunday, July 29, 2012  Miami Palms (52-50)                                      Boston Red Sox (5-6)                                     Player      ...

Palms 8, Red Sox 7

The Palms and Red Sox had a crazy seesaw affair in Boston Saturday afternoon. Each side had a three run homer that put them in front, with the Red Sox scoring 5 in the 5th, including the three run blast by Jacoby Ellsbury. The Palms went ahead then on Frank Sohn's blast in the top of the 7th. Still, it was tied at 7 in the 9th when Coco Crisp hit a one out fly to center that scored Steve Drysdale, who ended up being the game winning run. Manny Parra notched save number 20.  Miami Palms 8, Boston Red Sox 7  Saturday, July 28, 2012  Miami Palms (51-50)                                      Boston Red Sox (5-5)                              ...

Red Sox 7, Palms 4

The Palms scored the first 4 runs of the day, but the Red Sox were able to fight their way back in front, especially in the 5th, whne Cody Ross hit the go ahead home run, a three run blast off of Felix Gonsales. The Palms scored early with help from Matt Holliday and Omir Santos, however Aaon Cook settled down and with help from Alfredo Aceves, Miami was held hitless through the final 3 innings.  Boston Red Sox 7, Miami Palms 4  Friday, July 27, 2012  Miami Palms (50-50)                                      Boston Red Sox (5-4)                                     Player       ...

First half MVP, Jaspero Gonzalez

While he was never the monthly MVP, it was very clear that the straw that stirred the drink for Miami was all star second baseman Jaspero Gonzalez. At this point in the stadium, he is hitting .322 with 16 home runs and a 60 runs batted in. More impressive is his batting average with runners in scoring position: ,350. Not bad for someone in the heart of the order.

Palms 2, White Sox 1

Jake Peavey was perfect through 5 and he still was no match for Dave Balierough, who rebounded admirably from a terrible outing in his last appearance. He gave up 4 hits and a 2 walks, while striking out 5 in 8 innings of work. The Palms were down 1-0 until Nick Markakis hit a solo homer in the 8th, the 3rd hit for Miami. The Palms went ahead on reliever Leyson Septimo when Frank Sohn hit a double with Omir Santos on 2nd. Manny Parra nabbed his 19th save, despite a two out triple.  Miami Palms 2, Chicago White Sox 1  Thursday, July 26, 2012  Miami Palms (50-49)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-2)                            ...

Palms 9, White Sox 2

The Palms scored early and often. They scored a run in each of the first three innings, but ended that streak with a grand slam from Coco Crisp in the 4th, blowing the game wide open. They matched a good hitting game with a well pitched game as well. Kevin Correia earned the victory, only allowing 2 runs, one of which came on a Paul Konerko solo homer.  Miami Palms 9, Chicago White Sox 2  Wednesday, July 25, 2012  Miami Palms (49-49)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-1)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

White Sox 7, Palms 2

Something happened during the all star break, and it changed the pitching staff. It seems there hasn't been a good outing in a very long time, and Troy Munoz continued that trend, allowing 5 runs in 4 innings, capped off by a 2 run homer by Kevin Youkilis. The Palms also scuffled with Gavin Floyd, continuing their road woes.  Chicago White Sox 7, Miami Palms 2  Tuesday, July 24, 2012  Miami Palms (48-49)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-0)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave ...

Three Palms in the All Star Game

The Palms sent three players to the All Star Game this year, and once again, none of them were pitchers. Outfielder Matt Holliday, catcher Omir Santos and second baseman Jaspero Gonzalez all made the trip to Kansas City to represent the Palms. Unfortunately, the American League lost the game, and the 0-3 performance (collectively) from the Palms didn't help. Still, it's a great honor, so congratulations to the All Star trio!

Twins 5, Palms 2

The Twins took the final game of the series in Minnesota, and Miami is yet to  claim a series after the All Star Break. The Twins gained their first runs when Josh Willingham hit a two run homer, while Ben Revere had 4 hits of his own. Miami struggled to score when they had the chance, scoring only when Jaspero Gonzalez had a two run double, despite getting 11 hits. The Palms head to the south side of Chicago to take on the White Sox. Palms 5, Twins 4

The Palms were effective early against Scott Diamond and the Twins, hitting three home runs, including a two run shot from Jaspero Gonzalez. They added a late run on a Jose Molina homer, which was important, as the Twins drew it to within 1 in the bottom of the ninth. Miami instead preserved a lead, managing to temporarily break out of their slump.  Miami Palms 5, Minnesota Twins 4  Saturday, July 21, 2012  Miami Palms (48-47)                                      Minnesota Twins (2-3)                                    Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Twins 9, Palms 4

The Twins are woeful this year, but they were fortunate enough to play a pitcher that was more so. Dave Balierough couldn't keep the ball over the plate, walking 7 over only 4 innings. It was perhaps the most dreadful outing of the year, and definitely cost the team the game.  Minnesota Twins 9, Miami Palms 4  Friday, July 20, 2012  Miami Palms (47-47)                                      Minnesota Twins (2-2)                                    Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player ...

Tigers 4, Palms 2

In a painful end to the series, the Palms were sent off in a walk off manner. The Tigers scored all their runs on home runs, including solo blasts from Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta, but the most painful blow was the two out home run from Danny Worth in the bottom of the 9th to send Detroit fans home happy.  Detroit Tigers 4, Miami Palms 2  Thursday, July 19, 2012  Miami Palms (47-46)                                      Detroit Tigers (6-3)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave ...

Palms 10, Tigers 5

The Palms batted around in the 2nd inning, scoring 6 runs as they battered Doug Fister, turning the tables on Detroit after two rough games. Omir Santos hit two home runs in the first two innings to drive in 5 of his teams runs. Troy Munoz pitched better than the 5 runs allowed indicates, as three of the runs scored by the Tigers came in the 9th inning with two outs. This was only the second win for the Palms in the second half of the season.  Miami Palms 10, Detroit Tigers 5  Wednesday, July 18, 2012  Miami Palms (47-45)                                      Detroit Tigers (5-3)                                    ...
