Palms 4, Red Sox 2

The Palms scored twice early, with a pair of solo homers in the first and second inning from Pat Grant and Chris Korb, but then wee held in check by David Price, allowing the Red Sox to come back. The logjam continued all the way until Price was pulled, and the Palms could go to work on Heath Hembree. Nick Markakis led off with a single, and the Palms took the lead for good in the 7th when Edwin Encarnacion homered to left.  Miami Palms 4, Boston Red Sox 2  Saturday, April 28, 2018  Boston Red Sox (1-1)                                     Miami Palms (16-10)                                      Player  ...

Red Sox 10, Palms 3

The Palms home stand got off to an auspicious start. The Red Sox led the game off with 2 homers from Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez. It only got worse, as the Red Sox then hit three 2 run blasts in th 2nd inning to blow the game wide open. Blake Johnston left the game early thanks to the 5 innings allowed in 2 innings, though the bullpen handled the rest of the game much more successfully. Drew Pomeranz allowed 2 in 7 innings of work.  Boston Red Sox 10, Miami Palms 3  Friday, April 27, 2018  Boston Red Sox (1-0)                                     Miami Palms (15-10)                                      Pl...

Palms 7, Yankees 2

The Palms turned the table on the Yankees in the Bronx, scoring early and often against starter Jordan Montgomery. Pat Grant led the game off with a home run, while the Palms made it 5 total in the third, when Brett Hayes hit a three run blast. It was all the Palms would need, though they would score twice more, and Lucas Harrell would lock the Yankees down in a complete game victory.  Miami Palms 7, New York Yankees 2  Thursday, April 26, 2018  Miami Palms (15-9)                                       New York Yankees (1-2)                                   Player          ...

Yankees 9, Palms 3

Dylan Bundy is a familiar site for the Yankees, and they hit him like he was. They scored twice and sent 7 to the plate in the first inning, and then it only went downhill for the Palms' newest starter, as the Yankees scored 7 more times, capping things off with a 3 run home run from Didi Gregorius. The Bombers didn't score any more in the game, but they didn't need it, as Sonny Gray and his bullpen did all the work they needed.  New York Yankees 9, Miami Palms 3  Wednesday, April 25, 2018  Miami Palms (14-9)                                       New York Yankees (1-1)                                   Player ...

Catcher Carlos Ruiz

Carlos Ruiz is getting late in his career for a catcher, but he still continues to swing a heavy bat, at least this year. He has provided a few clutch homers already this season, and is perhaps more importantly provided good veteran wisdom behind the plate. The Palms have a veteran pitching rotation, but a bullpen that keeps getting younger, and his insight will be invaluable as the team hopes for a playoff return in 2018.

Palms 6, Yankees 5

Miami batted around and scored 5 times, including a 2 run double from Frank Sohn and a three run blast off the bat of Chris Korb in the first inning. CC Sabathia didn't allow another run, but he didn't last past 3 innings. The Yankees came back, however, scoring 5 runs by the end of the third inning, with 4 of those runs coming in the third as New York sent 8 to the plate. The bats then went silent until the 9th inning when it was Sohn again who came through, this time with a bases loaded single to win on the road in the Bronx.  Miami Palms 6, New York Yankees 5  Tuesday, April 24, 2018  Miami Palms (14-8)                                       New York Yankees (0-1)                    ...

RP Wandy Peralta

The Palms saw something they liked in the former Cincinnati Red. He worked to an ERA that was below 4.00 in 2017, feuled heavily off a very low walk rate, if not the strikeout rate ne would expect from a reliever. Fortunately, that’s a perfect fit in the Palms pitching staff, and Peralta looks to be a capable middle reliever as Miami gears up for a strong run at the postseason in 2018.

Rangers 5, Palms 4 (10 innings)

The Rangers and Palms each got contributions from their back up catchers, though it was Juan Centeno of Texas that hit two home runs to Carlos Ruiz's 1. Nomar Mazara also homered off of Braden Shipley to draw the Rangers level in the bottom of the 8th, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a two out single to put secure the walk off win for Texas, and saved them from the sweep.  Texas Rangers 5, Miami Palms 4  Sunday, April 22, 2018  Miami Palms (13-8)                                       Texas Rangers (1-2)                                      Player          AB R...

Palms 13, Rangers 3

The Palms broke out of their offensive slump in a big way on Saturday, scoring double digits against the Rangers. The Palms had huge days from a trio of players. Edwin Encarnacion went 4-6 with an RBI. Pat Grant went 5-5 with 4 runs batted in and a home run, and Brett Hayes went 4-6 with 5 RBI. The Palms eventually collected 18 hits, and incredibly, there were three players that didn't have a single hit. The Palms look to complete the sweep in their next game, and have Jarod Lantz on the mound to execute.  Miami Palms 13, Texas Rangers 3  Saturday, April 21, 2018  Miami Palms (13-7)                                       Texas Rangers (0-2)                        ...

Palms 2, Rangers 1

The Palms got their first win in Texas this year, after getting swept in Houston in thier previous series. They inched past the Rangers and Mike Minor, thanks to some clutch hits, an RBI single from Carlos Ruiz and a sacrifice fly from Travis Jankowski. The real star, though, was Lucas Harrell, who himself scattered 8 hits over 8 innings.  Miami Palms 2, Texas Rangers 1  Friday, April 20, 2018  Miami Palms (12-7)                                       Texas Rangers (0-1)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Astros 11, Palms 4

The Palms jumped out to a 3 run lead when Frank Sohn cleared the bases with a double in the first inning, but from that point forward, it was downhill for Miami. The Astros batted around and scored 4 times in the third to take the lead, and then pummeled the bullpen for 4 runs after pinning 7 on Dylan Bundy. Mawin Gonzalez drove in three with 3 doubles, while George Springer, Carlos Correa and Brian McCann all hit home runs.  Houston Astros 11, Miami Palms 4  Wednesday, April 18, 2018  Miami Palms (11-7)                                       Houston Astros (3-0)                                     Player...

Astros 3, Palms 2

The Palms struggled against Astros pitching again on Tuesday, as Lance McCullers pinned down Palms batters. The Astros collected a pair of solo home runs, including a lead off blast from George Springer and had enough to edge Miami for a second game in a row.  Houston Astros 3, Miami Palms 2  Tuesday, April 17, 2018  Miami Palms (11-6)                                       Houston Astros (2-0)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player   ...

Astros 7, Palms 1

The Palms coasted into Houston, and were throttled by the defending champs. The Astros batted around and scored 5 times in the 2nd inning, including a 2 run homer from Marwin Gonzalez. The Astros hit back to back homers in the 5th inning to fully kneel on the back of the visiting Palms.  Houston Astros 7, Miami Palms 1  Monday, April 16, 2018  Miami Palms (11-5)                                       Houston Astros (1-0)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave    ...
