Angels 4, Palms 3

John Danks held the Angels to 6 hits, but one of them happened to be a three run home run off the bat of Kole Calhoun. Miami's offense was much less reliable, thanks in a greater degree to the Angels bullpen than the starter, CJ Wilson.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 4, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, June 29, 2014  Miami Palms (44-40)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2-1)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Palms 7, Angels 5 (10 innings)

The Palms made a thrilling comeback in Anaheim Saturday night, as they scored 5 runs in the final three innings of the game. The Palms scored their first run off of Michael Morin on a bases loaded Nick Markakis walk, and scored 2 when Chris Johnson homered in the 9th. With two runners on, Tony Abreu had an RBI single, followed by a Carlos Ruiz sac fly. Lucas Harrell struck out 8 in 5 innings.  Miami Palms 7, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 5  Saturday, June 28, 2014  Miami Palms (44-39)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1-1)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Halfway home

The Palms played game number 82 this evening in Los Angeles, which means that they are in the second half of the season, in terms of games played. Frank Sohn is on pace for 40 home runs despite a slow start, while Coco Crisp is on pace for an unlikely 34. The Palms are, most importantly, only 2 games out of first place in the AL East. Now is the time that they should really kick it into high gear for the second half of the season

Angels 6, Palms 1

The Palms were stymied by rookie pitcher Matt Shoemaker, who held Miami to only 6 hits. Meanwhile, the Angels got 7 hits and 5 runs... off of Blake Johnston. Through 3 innings. The bullpen was more effective, but the damage was already done. The Angels scored three of their runs in the first when they had back to back home runs from Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 6, Miami Palms 1  Friday, June 27, 2014  Miami Palms (43-39)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1-0)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave  ...

Keith Harding has a tough outing

Keith Harding has had some interesting numbers this season. He's had such incredible control, that when, on Tuesday, he walked a better followed by a hits batsman, it was only his second and third free pass of the season. He has 30 strikeouts, giving him a 10-1 ratio. Harding is definitely the type of pitcher that won't beat himself.

Palms 8, Red Sox 6

The Palms relied heavily on the big fly on Wednesday afternoon. They had 10 hits, but 4 of them were home runs, including Joe Mather's first of the year and Frank Sohn's 20th. Mather had his first career start as a catcher, as Ruiz was due for a day off, and the manager wanted to experiment with team flexibility. Billy Dupont gave the Palms the lead in the 6th with a 3 run homer, but Boston worked their way back into the game, drawing level in the 8th inning. Chris Korb had the team's 4th homer of the game, a two run shot to put the team ahead for good.  Miami Palms 8, Boston Red Sox 6  Wednesday, June 25, 2014  Miami Palms (43-38)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-3)                 ...

Palms 12, Red Sox 2

Troy Munoz has often been the victim of not enough run support in outings where his stuff has been on point, but that was not the case Tuesday night. Frank Sohn gave the Palms a 3-0 lead with a first inning homer, which ultimately would have been enough. After Jake Peavy was chased after 4 innings the Palms really went to work, sending 12 to the plate against Felix Doubront in the 5th inning and scoring 7, including a bases clearing Kelly Johnson double and a 2 run Coco Crisp homer. The rubber match is Wednesday afternoon.   Miami Palms 12, Boston Red Sox 2  Tuesday, June 24, 2014  Miami Palms (42-38)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-2)                      ...

Palms assured a winning record in the first haf

The Palms have 41 wins through 79 games at this point in the season, which means that they have secured a winning record through the first half of the season. Even though the season hasn't exactly gone as well as they might hope, especially since they have a negative run differential, they only sit 2.5 games out of first place. The back of the rotation needs to get better, but the offense has been hitting well over the last several weeks, which should give the Palms great momentum as they head into the second half of the season.

Red Sox 9, Palms 4

The cross country travel showed in a sluggish performance from the Palms, and a hodgepodge lineup. John Danks was ineffective in h 1/3 innings, and the Palms struggled to drive in runs when they had runners on base, stranding 12 through the game. Boston hit 4 home runs, 3 of them off of Danks.  Boston Red Sox 9, Miami Palms 4  Monday, June 23, 2014  Miami Palms (41-38)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-1)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave    ...

Palms 4, Mariners 1

The Palms ended up getting a split in Seattle thanks to a dominant pitching outing from Lucas Harrell and some timely hitting on offense. The Palms only had 8 hits, but two of them were homers, as Carlos Ruiz and Steve Drysdale put out solo blasts.  Miami Palms 4, Seattle Mariners 1  Sunday, June 22, 2014  Miami Palms (41-37)                                      Seattle Mariners (2-2)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player       ...

Mariners 7, Palms 5

The Palms had a terrible outing from Blake Johnston, just one day after Kyle Blume played so well. Johnston only lasted 2 innings, and the Mariners batted around in the first, scoring 5 runs. Miami came back to tie it thanks to 17 hits, but shortly after pulling level, Seattle scored on a groundout to third and a solo home run in the bottom half of the 5th and 6th respectively. The Palms will go for the split on Sunday.  Seattle Mariners 7, Miami Palms 5  Saturday, June 21, 2014  Miami Palms (40-37)                                      Seattle Mariners (2-1)                                   Player   ...

Palms 4, Mariners 0

Kyle Blume was back in form on Friday evening, pitching 7 strong inning, scattering 7 hits and striking out 4, while at the same time preventing any runs. The Palms big hit was a two run homer by Steve Drysdale, who ended up with three RBI for the contest.  Miami Palms 4, Seattle Mariners 0  Friday, June 20, 2014  Miami Palms (40-36)                                      Seattle Mariners (1-1)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player      ...

Mariners 8, Palms 4

The Palms seemed like they were in control of a pitchers duel through 5 innings, as they simply weren't pushing runs across, though Erasmo Rodriguez was walking batters and allowing base hits. In the 6th, however, the Mariners got to Troy Munoz, scoring 5 runs, including a grand slam from Dustin Ackley. The pitchers duel was over, and so was Miami's winning streak.  Seattle Mariners 8, Miami Palms 4  Thursday, June 19, 2014  Miami Palms (39-36)                                      Seattle Mariners (1-0)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Palms 3, Toronto 2

The Palms got another strong outing, this time, 8 innings and a win from John Danks. They had 15 hits, but couldn't seem to string many together. The Palms scored on a solo homer by Steve Drysdale and an RBI double from Billy Dupont, but it will be Kelly Johnson's 9th inning RBI 2 out single that will stick in the memory of both squads. This turned out to be a sweep, on the road for the Palms, who now head to Seattle.  Miami Palms 3, Toronto Blue Jays 2  Wednesday, June 18, 2014  Miami Palms (39-35)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (1-5)                                  Player     ...

Tony Abreu is en fuego

Tony Abreu has seen his bat come alive in the last several days, and nowhere is that mmore clear than looking at his stat line over the past  games. He has a .442/,884/.455 AVG/SLG/OBP slash line thanks to 5 homers and 11 runs batted in over the last 10. The team has undoubtedly been playing well in the past 10, but Abreu seems to be unstoppable.

Palms 4, Blue Jays 0

The Palms had an awesome pitching performance from it's pitching staff, as Lucas Harrell, Oliver Perez and Pete Otterloop held Toronto to 3 hits. Tony Abreu had 3 hits on his own, as well as 3 runs batted in and two solo home runs.  Miami Palms 4, Toronto Blue Jays 0  Tuesday, June 17, 2014  Miami Palms (38-35)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (1-4)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R...
