Rays 2, Palms 1

That 60h win has proved elusive. The Palms even got a solid outing from Blake Johnston, who allowed two solo homers to David Robertson and Adam Moore, but no support from the offense. Miami only had 6 hits with a patchwork lineup that allowed rest for many of the players. The lackluster offensive output meant a sweep at home for the Rays in a series that Miami simply couldn't score enough runs.  Tampa Bay Rays 2, Miami Palms 1  Wednesday, July 25, 2018  Miami Palms (59-43)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (4-3)                                     Player       ...

Rays 4, Palms 3

The Palms jumped to an early lead, battering Yonny Chirinos in the early going, including scoring 3 times in the second inning, but they failed to score at any point after that. In fact, after collecting 6 his between the 2nd and 3rd innings, hey only had 3 more hits for the rest of the game. The Rays started working late in the game, with two big home runs to note. Matt Duffy hit the game tying blast, a two run shot in the 5th inning, while Jesus Sucre led the bottom of the 9th with a walk off shot.  Tampa Bay Rays 4, Miami Palms 3  Tuesday, July 24, 2018  Miami Palms (59-42)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (3-3)                          ...

Nasty bug sidelines pitchers

Just before the all star break, the rotation was beset by a virulent strand of some virus or another. Both of the top starters in the rotation, Jarod Lantz and Manny Parra had a respiratory infection that left them with low energy and a healthy cough. The two road roommates were fortunate not to pass it much further to the rest of the team (Greg Garcia caught something, but not nearly as potent). They each missed a start, and were allowed to rest up through the All Star break. Neither pitcher was particularly on top of their game when they returned, but they are alleged to be in full health

Rays 4, Palms 2

The Palms returned to their home state, but not their home stadium. Playing indoors in Tampa didn't quite work out for Miami, as the Palms could only manage 6 hits in a loss to their division rivals. Matt Duffy collected 3 hits, while Kevin Kiermeyer hit a solo homer and Jesus Sucre had a clutch 2 run double in the 5th.  Tampa Bay Rays 4, Miami Palms 2  Monday, July 23, 2018  Miami Palms (59-41)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (2-3)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave...

Players return from All Star Break

The Palms are having a pretty good season thus far, even as they are overshadowed by a couple of teams in their own division. Their recent playoff success raised their profile enough that 3 players were able to reach the All Star Game, Tony Abreu, Pat Grant and Brett Hayes, who are all having dominant seasons at the plate, and are each in their own right contending for the batting title. Hayes, despite a slow start, maintains the inside track. Two pitchers, Lucas Harrell and Manny Parra, were also selected, however a virus swept through the Palms dugout just before the All Star break, which knocked Parra out, and Harrell had to work on short rest with Parra (and Jarod Lantz) out of commission, taking him out of contention for appearing in the game as well

Palms 6, Twins 4

The Twins started things off right, as Joe Mauer led the game off with a solo home run for the Twins at Target Field. Miami did most of their damage in the 4th inning, scoring 4 runs, with 3 of them coming on back to back doubles from Nick Markakis and Pat Grant. Each would add another RBI later, with Grant's coming on a home run.  Miami Palms 6, Minnesota Twins 4  Sunday, July 22, 2018  Miami Palms (59-40)                                      Minnesota Twins (3-3)                                    Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB ...

Twins 6, Palms 1

Jarod Lantz finally returned to the mound after his ailment, and he struggled more than usual. The big blow was a three run homer from Eduardo Escobar which knocked Lantz out of the game. Joe Mauer added a two run shot off of Mike Morin to complete the Minnesota dominance in Minneapolis. The rubber match will feature Manny Parra's return to the mound after his own battle with the flu.  Minnesota Twins 6, Miami Palms 1  Saturday, July 21, 2018  Miami Palms (58-40)                                      Minnesota Twins (3-2)                                    Player          AB...

Palms 8, Twins 2

The game slowly got away from Minnesota after the first few frames were scoreless. The Palms started chipping away in the 4th, and were up 4-0 midway through the 5th. In the 7th, Frank Sohn blew it wide open with a 3 run homer. He would end up with 4 RBI. Chris Korb contributed with 3 RBI and 4 hits.  Miami Palms 8, Minnesota Twins 2  Friday, July 20, 2018  Miami Palms (58-39)                                      Minnesota Twins (2-2)                                    Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave    ...

Palms 8, Angels 1

The Palms slugged their way through the middle innings to ensure victory as the All Star break loomed. The Palms scored 4 times in the 4th inning, then twice more in each the 5th and 6th to put quite a bit of space between themselves and the Angels. Lucas Harrell, as he is wont to do, worked all nine innings, but people are more likely to remember Jaspero Gonzalez's 2 home runs, certainly the most thunderous of Miami's 14 hits.  Miami Palms 8, Los Angeles Angels 1  Sunday, July 15, 2018  Los Angeles Angels (2-5)                                 Miami Palms (57-39)                                      Player    ...

Angels 7, Palms 0

It would have been hard to blame Miami for not being fresh on Saturday afternoon, but then again, they were squaring off against the team that they played the night before. The Angels were fortunate enough to enjoy a complete game from starter Andrew Heaney, but it was also Luis Valbuena who looked fresh, hitting two home runs off the exhausted Palms pitching staff.  Los Angeles Angels 7, Miami Palms 0  Saturday, July 14, 2018  Los Angeles Angels (2-4)                                 Miami Palms (56-39)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P...

Palms 11, Angels 9 14 innings

Usually, when a game reaches extra innings with a score of 9-9, not much more game is reasonably expected to be played. This was not the case in Miami on Friday night. The regular innings were dynamic, with each team hitting big home runs, including a three run blast from Nick Markakis and the go ahead home run from Tony Abreu, while the Angels surged ahead in the first place on a grand slam from Kole Calhoun earlier in the game. Brian Matusz blew the save in the 9th when the Angels rallied with 2 outs. Then, the bats fell silent for both teams until the 14th, when with two outs, Nick Markakis collected the game winning ground rule double. Almost cruelly, the teams have a day game scheduled for Saturday.  Miami Palms 11, Los Angeles Angels 9  Friday, July 13, 2018  Los Angeles Angels (1-4)                              ...

Palms 9, Angels 5

Miami looks to finish the first half of the seasons strong, and they showed it against the Angels on Thursday night. The teams were locked in a 2-2 affair through the first half of the game, however in the bottom of the 5th, the Palms broke through and scored 5 runs, capped by a grand slam off the bat of Chris Korb. 3 innings of shaky but scoreless relief secured the victory for Miami.  Miami Palms 9, Los Angeles Angels 5  Thursday, July 12, 2018  Los Angeles Angels (1-3)                                 Miami Palms (55-38)                                      Player          AB R  H ...

Palms 7, Red Sox 2

Miami's sweep of the Red Sox came at a great time, as Miami had only one series to play before the all star break, and against the leader of the division. Already in front, the Palms had a big 6th inning in which they hit for the cycle as a team, with Tony Abreu's 2 run triple serving as the capstone.  Miami Palms 7, Boston Red Sox 2  Wednesday, July 11, 2018  Miami Palms (54-38)                                      Boston Red Sox (4-5)                                     Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave  ...
