Royals 5, Palms 4 (10 innings)

The Palms were ahead through 8 after good pitching from Kevin Correia, Felix Gonsales and Blake Johnson, who only allowed 2 runs between the three of them. Manny Parra came in and was in trouble from the beginning. Wilson Betemit drove in two with a single. The next inning, Dennis Sarfate struck out the first two, but fell apart from there. Palms killer Melky Cabrera drove in the go ahead run for the Royals. Starting Pitcher: Javier Vazquez

Javier Vazquez was the best pitcher last year thanks to his high strikeout rate, and played his way to an opening day start this year. He was also gifted some good offense. His ERA was nearly the same as Troy Munoz, however Vazquez ended up with a 17-6 record while Munoz only went 10-11. So far through the first month of the season, Vazquez' hasn't lived up to his ace billing, and his 0-3 record shows that his luck may have run out.

Palms 9, Royals 3

The Palms beath the Royals for the first time this season, and did so thanks to the bat of Ayoz Sadan. Sadan hit 2 home runs and was a triple away from a cycle as the Palms took the wood to Bruce Chen. Troy Munoz shut the Royals down through 8 but struggled in the 9th. The manager came out to talk to him, but Munoz pleaded to finish, and subsequently retired the next three batters to win his first game of the season. Red Sox 6, Palms 3

The Palms were ineffective against Red Sox ace Jon Lester Thursday night in Boston. Lester scattered 7 hits and allowed only one run on a Jose Molina solo homer, while the Red Sox had better success against Javier Vazquez, particularly Kevin Youkilis, who launched a three run homer, the decisive blow in the rubber game of the series. Palms 9, Red Sox 4

The Palms broke out of their slump with a big win over division rivals the Boston Red Sox. Jaspero Gonzalez had a huge game, hitting two home runs, including a grand slam that put the team ahead by 7. Gonzalez ended up with 6 of Miami's 9 RBI, with Ryan Henning driving in 2 more with a home run of his own. Ivan Fernandez, the rookie, is now the team leader with three wins. Red Sox 7, Palms 5

The Palms looked like they were going to win the first game of their first extended road trip of the season. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Manny Parra was on the mound ready to close the game, but Boston's Jed Lowrie had a different idea. He hit a three run blast over the Green Monster to win the game for the home side and continue the Palms' early season spiral. Thus far through the season, the Palms have the worst record in baseball. Outfield: Orlando Tiropes

Orlando Tiropes has been the the utility outfielder for the team that has been noted for his glove, though last year, his bat showed signs of life, with a .333 average and two home runs. With Steve Drysdale slumping earlier, Tiropes looks to benefit with a few extra appearances this season.

A's 6, Palms 4

Yesterday's win didn't turn the season around, as it turns out, as the team's bullpen remains completely dreadful. After 5 innings of good work from Kevin Correia, the Palms lost their lead when Art McLoughlin gave up three runs in the 7th. Dennis Sarfate gave up another as the Palms sunk further into last place. Palms 9, A's 6

The Palms have finally snapped their losing streak, thanks in large part to the offensive contributions of Jaspero Gonzalez and Omir Santos, who each hit three run homers. Martin Prado contributed another with a solo blast in the 2nd, which was the only hit off Trevor Cahill through three innings. Blake Johnston managed his second win of the season with two strong innings of relief, and Manny Parra came in to close his 4th game of the season. Right Field: Frank Sohn

Frank Sohn, Ayoz Sadan and the no departed Joe Gras came up as an elite corps of outfield prospects, and have mostly panned out. Sohn is a classic five tool player, generally the better glove than Sadan, though with a slightly lighter stick, but only very slightly. Sohn and Sadan go toe to toe on home runs, but Sadan always has a higher batting average. The right handed Sohn is an excellent compliment to the lefty Sadan, and the Palms were lucky to re-sign him this off season.

A's 6, Palms 4

The Palms continue to slide into oblivion, losing their 6th in a row. This time, the A's were ahead by enough after scoring 4 off of Javier Vazquez that the blame couldn't be attributed to the bullpen, though back to back homers off Don Schoppe didn't help. The Palms were able to hold onto a 3-2 lead before the 5th inning, but just like every game this week, it wasn't enough to hang on to the win. Royals 14, Palms 11

The offense finally came around for the Palms in the series, but it wasn't enough. Despite scoring 11 runs, it wasn't enough to overcome an 8 run inning by the Royals in which they hit 4 home runs, including two three run blasts by Billy Butler and Yunel Escobar. Wilson Betemit hit two homers and went 5/5 off of the overmatched Palms staff. Royals 3, Palms 0

The Palms were shut down again by the Royals staff, this time a combination of Luke Hochevar and Joakim Soria held the Palms to only 5 hits. The Palms expect to start hitting later in the season, but the positive sign was a decent outing from Dave Balierough and quality relief from three pitchers in the bullpen. Royals pitching has surprisingly kept the Palms in check this series. Miami scored their first two runs of the series Tuesday evening off of Bruce Chen, but those runs weren't enough as Melky Cabrera hit a three run shot off of relief pitcher Art McLoughlin, spoiling 6 strong innings from Kevin Correia. There was one big blast in this game that tilted the balance. Troy Munoz loaded the bases, and Melky Cabrera cleared them with a grand slam that provided all of the runs the Royals staff needed. Relief Pitcher: Don Schoppe

Don Schoppe is unusual for a reliever, in that he is not a power pitcher. In 2008, he had his best career, but has seen his numbers decrease as opponents have figured out his schemes. The Palms hope that Schoppe can develop another pitch to keep hitters on their toes this season, because the bullpen tends to be the weakest component of the team, and his arm will be relied upon.

Relief Pitcher: Dennis Sarfate

Dennis Sarfate came from Baltimore two seasons ago, and has served as a middle reliever ever since. His numbers declined from 2009 to 2010, but his ERA in the low 4.00 range is still adequate. With a green starting pitching corps, his steady arm will be relied upon late in games this year.

The Palms waited until late in the game to pull away, despite a solid outing from Ivan Fernandez, who went the hole way on less than 90 pitches. The Jays only scored when Jayson Nix hit a three run blast in the 7th. Two innings later, the Palms started to get their offense going an inning later. They batted around, with the big blasts coming off the bat of Billy Dupont who hit a three run homer. Three pitches later, Coco Crisp launched one to the seats to seal the deal for Miami. Omir Santos has been the back up catcher for the Palms the past two seasons and is expected to see his playing time increase this year with the departure of Eddie Black. He and Jose Molina are expected to be relied more upon for their pitch calling and glove, but his bat has been known to be clutch at times as well. Black's offense will be tough to replace, but the Palms hope the advantage for their pitchers will more than make up for it.

In what was perhaps the closest thing to a pitcher's duel this season, Troy Munoz and Max Scherzer each went deep for their respective teams, but left it to the bullpen to decide in the 9th inning. Leftfield: Ayoz Sadan

Ayoz Sadan, born of Armenian parents, is one of the fan favorites on the roster, and can generally be relied upon to get about 20 home runs and a high average, around .300 or so. This season, with the departure of Eddie Black, he will likely be counted upon to be the second bat in a lineup that will still feature Jaspero Gonzalez and several high average batters.

The Palms were on base plenty, but only got a run when Billy Dupont hit a home run in his first at bat of the season.
