Red Sox 4, Palms 3

The Palms gave away a crucial game against their top division rival on Tuesday, as a solid start from Jarod Lantz was wasted by a rough relief appearance by Braden Shipley. He looked to be out of the 8th inning with a 3-2 lead and two outs, but Ian Kinsler stepped up and launched a 2 run homer over the Green Monster, and gave Boston the lead, after they had trailed since the first inning.  Boston Red Sox 4, Miami Palms 3  Tuesday, August 7, 2018  Miami Palms (64-50)                                      Boston Red Sox (5-5)                                     Player        ...

Palms gear up for a playoff push

The trade deadline has passed, and the Palms can now reassess their competition for the stretch run. They currently sit in the third in the AL East behind the Yankees and Red Sox. They are 5.5 games behind the Yankees in the East, but also, they sit 2.5 games behind the A's for the final Wild Card spot. It's certainly a manageable gap to overcome but they will need to get moving over the final quarter of the season, and avoid the lags that have troubled them so far.

Palms 5, White Sox 3 (11 innings)

The White Sox held a lead from the third inning after they collected back to back solo homeruns from Dustin Garneau and Yoan Moncada, and then James Shields locked up the Palms lineup. Miami was able to stay in the game thanks to Keith Harding and Archie Bradley's 5 innings of scoreless relief. The Palms hit a pair of solo home runs themselves in the 8th and 9th innings, as Pat Grant and Frank Sohn brought the teams level. The Palms scratched together some hits in the 11th, before Greg Garcia had the go ahead single, which was followed by a sac fly from Grant.  Miami Palms 5, Chicago White Sox 3  Sunday, August 5, 2018  Miami Palms (64-49)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-5)               ...

White Sox 8, Palms 1

The White Sox jumped on Lucas Harrell, a pitcher who had been fairly successful so far this season. The scored three times in the 2nd inning, but the big blast came in the 4th, when Leury Garcia clobbered a three run homer, which put the White Sox ahead 7-0, which would be an insurmountable lead.  Chicago White Sox 8, Miami Palms 1  Saturday, August 4, 2018  Miami Palms (63-49)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-4)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Pla...

Palms 13, White Sox 2

The series opener with Chicago was a lesson in getting to the bullpen. The Palms scored 5 times off o Lucas Giolito, but their greatest asset was driving up his pitch count and knocking him out of the game after 6 innings. The Palms would then score 8 times in the 7th off of the White Sox bullpen, blowing the game wide opening an affair that had been otherwise been fairly well played. Dylan Bundy pitched well, though that was overshadowed by his own team's scoreline.  Miami Palms 13, Chicago White Sox 2  Friday, August 3, 2018  Miami Palms (63-48)                                      Chicago White Sox (0-4)                               ...

Brett Hayes looking to win batting title

Brett Hayes has had an interesting career. He is two years from a season where he didn't even hit .220, and he didn't even hit .200 the year before that. Now, though, after a season batting above .300 off the bench, he is having one of the best seasons in Palms history. The Palms expected players like Jaspero Gonzalez to lead the way this season, but Hayes' .329 average has paced the team as he's climbed up to bat in the middle of the lineup. If the team makes it's way into the playoffs, Hayes will play an important role, thanks to a combination of his bat and his role calling games.

Rays 3, Palms 2 (10 innings)

A two run blast from Edwin Encarnacion in the first was all the Palms could muster for runs, though they certainly threatened often. The Rays quickly struck in their half of the 10th, with back to back doubles from Carlos Gomez and Willy Adames. The Rays salvaged a game in the series, and Miami will take their 2nd half losing record to Chicago to begin their road trip.  Tampa Bay Rays 3, Miami Palms 2  Thursday, August 2, 2018  Tampa Bay Rays (5-5)                                     Miami Palms (62-47)                                      Player          AB R  H ...

Palms 4, Rays 3

Jarod Lantz came out very strong, with a perfect game through 5, and eventually worked 8 innings with 10 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the hits he allowed were big ones, including an RBI triple in the 6th and two solo homers, back to back in the 8th, which kept the game close. While the Rays struck out 11 times over the game, the Palms collected 11 hits, including Pat Grant's 2 doubles, and a 2 run double from Tony Abreu.  Miami Palms 4, Tampa Bay Rays 3  Wednesday, August 1, 2018  Tampa Bay Rays (4-5)                                     Miami Palms (62-46)                                      Player  ...

Palms 9, Rays 3

Miami's losing run has now turned into a 2 game offensive explosion. The Palms collected 13 hits, including a 4/4 day from Chris Korb, who nabbed a home run and 3 RBI along the way. Travis Jankowski had three hits, including 2 doubles and 3RBI of his own. The bullpen worked 4 scoreless innings to lock down the win.  Miami Palms 9, Tampa Bay Rays 3  Tuesday, July 31, 2018  Tampa Bay Rays (4-4)                                     Miami Palms (61-46)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave...

Palms 8, Indians 1

The losing streak is over for Miami, and they did it in convincing fashion on Sunday afternoon. The Palms and Indians had a tight affair through most of the game, with a 3-1 lead headed into the bottom of the 8th, before the floodgates opened. After a bases loaded double from Nick Markakis, Tony Abreu would clear the bases with a three run homer, wasting Corey Kluber's dominant start by taking it to reliever Brad Hand.  Miami Palms 8, Cleveland Indians 1  Sunday, July 29, 2018  Cleveland Indians (6-2)                                  Miami Palms (60-46)                                      Player     ...

Indians 8, Palms 1

Mike Clevinger worked 7 strong innings, while Brandon Guyer hit two home runs to help sink the Palms and continue their 6 game losing streak. Miami's bats were tepid at the plate, and Dylan Bundy scuffled through 5 1/3, while Mike Morin allowed a home run to Guyer as Cleveland ensure there was no chance the Palms would come back in the 9th.  Cleveland Indians 8, Miami Palms 1  Saturday, July 28, 2018  Cleveland Indians (6-1)                                  Miami Palms (59-46)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB ...

Indians 4, Palms 2

The Palms losing streak is now at 5 games after falling behind early at home to Cleveland. Brandon Guyer and Yonder Alonso went back to back to account for all 4 home runs. The Palms tried to claw back, and were able to score twice on an RBI double from Nick Markakis, but were otherwise left wanting. They still have two games left against Cleveland, so they can still salvage a split from this series.  Cleveland Indians 4, Miami Palms 2  Friday, July 27, 2018  Cleveland Indians (5-1)                                  Miami Palms (59-45)                                      Player        ...

Indians 5, Palms 4

Coming back to Miami didn't solve win #60 for the Palms. The Indians had two clutch home runs, a 2 run blast from Rajai Davis to gain an early lead, and a three run shot from Melky Cabrera to complete the scoring and put the necessary difference between the two teams. Miami nearly made it back, as Brett Hayes hit a two run homer in the 8th, but it was not denough to surmount the difference.  Cleveland Indians 5, Miami Palms 4  Thursday, July 26, 2018  Cleveland Indians (4-1)                                  Miami Palms (59-44)                                      Player          AB R...
