Athletics 10, Palms 4

Unfortunately, the Palms will have to stew on this game over their day off, on the way home to take on the Angels. The game was over early, as Javier Vazquez never got it going against the A's. Kurt Suzuki drove in 4 for the A's on their way to 10, with Jemile Weeks taking care of 3 more. The Palms netted all 4 of their runs on homers from Steve Drysdale, Jose Molina, and a two run shot from Frank Sohn  Oakland Athletics 10, Miami Palms 4  Wednesday, May 30, 2012  Miami Palms (25-26)                                      Oakland Athletics (3-3)                                  Player       ...

Palms 10, Athletics 6

The Palms and A's scored a boat load of runs. The A's struck early, hitting Felix Gonsales for 4 early runs in the first two innings, while the Palms came on strong later. Tony Abreu isn't thought of as a major league power hitter, though he has driven the ball in AAA. Hitting from the hot corner, he knocked two out of the park, which means he has 5 on the year. Omir Santos also drove in 4, that were able to tie the game and eventually put the Palms ahead. The best news of all, the Palms are now at .500.  Miami Palms 10, Oakland Athletics 6  Tuesday, May 29, 2012  Miami Palms (25-25)                                      Oakland Athletics (2-3)                        ...

Palms 3, Athletics 2

Dave Balierough came through with his 2nd win of the season, finally. It took a game against the Oakland A's, one of the worst offenses in the league. The Palms struggled against young Travis Blackley, but managed 3 runs, two off the bat of Matt Holliday, and the go ahead run from Martin Prado's sacrifice fly in the 5th inning.  Miami Palms 3, Oakland Athletics 2  Monday, May 28, 2012  Miami Palms (24-25)                                      Oakland Athletics (2-2)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave ...

Twins 6, Palms 4

The Palms were unable to score the sweep against a weak Twins team. There were a lot of singles and strung together hits to provide the Twins with a victory. The big inning came in the 2nd, when Minnesota got to Kevin Correia for 4 of their 6 runs. The Palms tied it with solo blasts from Matt Holliday and Jose Molina, back to back in the 5th. It wasn't enough, as the Twins scored two off of the Palms bullpen to earn the W.  Minnesota Twins 6, Miami Palms 4  Sunday, May 27, 2012  Minnesota Twins (1-2)                                    Miami Palms (23-25)                                      Player   ...

Power in the middle of the lineup

The three biggest bats in the lineup, based on isolated power, are three guys that were expected to be there. Omir Santos, Frank Sohn and Matt Holliday own those spots, though Sohn and Holliday are doing it with a high batting average as well. All three have ISOs of over .225.  Despite the gaudy numbers put up all across the border, through two months, it appears as though Holliday is separating himself as the top player on the roster. He will likely continue to man the 5th spot in the lineup however, as Sohn isn't that far behind. The pitching, while improved, isn't great yet. The Palms certainly enjoy having an offense that plates runs regularly

Palms 8, Twins 6

The Twins and Palms went back and forth, with the Palms eventually taking the second game of their series, thanks to a go ahead home run from Billy Dupont. The Twins had the first lead at 2-0, but the Palms scored the next 4, in the bottom of the first and second. Josh Willingham helped put the Twins back in front 6-4 with a three run blast in the fifth. Two 2 run blasts from Steve Drysdale in the 6th and Dupont in the 7th gave the game to the home team.  Miami Palms 8, Minnesota Twins 6  Saturday, May 26, 2012  Minnesota Twins (0-2)                                    Miami Palms (23-24)                                   ...

Palms 4, Twins 3 (10 innings)

Anthony Swarzak had a no hitter versus the Palms through 6 innings, but he hit Jaspero Gonzalez to lead of the seventh. Sohn then broke up the no hitter with a single. Two batters later, Omir Santos tied the game at three with a home run. The Palms only had three more hits, including back to back doubles in the 10th, including Coco Crisp's game winner.  Miami Palms 4, Minnesota Twins 3  Friday, May 25, 2012  Minnesota Twins (0-1)                                    Miami Palms (22-24)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Rays 7, Palms 5

The Rays managed to end the Palms' good times with a series sweep in Miami. This game had a bit more offense than the previous two games in this series, especially in the 5th when Felix Gonsales was knocked out of the game as the Rays batted around and scored 4 runs. The Palms went with a piecemeal lineup, which still scored 5 runs. Orlando Tiropes and Nick Markakis each homered, meaning the offense didn't quite miss a beat. a Tampa Bay Rays 7, Miami Palms 5  Wednesday, May 23, 2012  Tampa Bay Rays (5-2)                                     Miami Palms (21-25)                                      Player  ...

Rays 4, Palms 2

Tampa Bay and Miami played another tight game in their cross state rivalry. Things unraveled in the 7th when Tampa strung together a few hits, including a two run Chris Gimenez homer to break the game open. The Palms were only able to score their runs on solo homers, from Billy Dupont and Jaspero Gonzalez, despite getting 10 hits.  Tampa Bay Rays 4, Miami Palms 2  Tuesday, May 22, 2012  Tampa Bay Rays (3-2)                                     Miami Palms (21-23)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Rays 2, Palms 1

After a series in which the Palms seemed to be able to score at will, it seemed as they were going to get off to a hot start against the Rays, scoring an early run off of Jeremy Hellickson. After that, the door was shut on the Palms. The Rays inched past the Palms when they plated a run off of Kevin Correia and Don Schoppe in the 7th. Neither bullpen was charged with allowing a run, however.  Tampa Bay Rays 3, Miami Palms 1  Monday, May 21, 2012  Tampa Bay Rays (2-2)                                     Miami Palms (21-22)                                      Player        ...

Palms 7, Cubs 0

The Palms have dominated on their homestand thus far, securing their second sweep, this their first three game sweep. The Palms again got to the Cubs's starter, in this case Paul Maholm, touching him for 7 runs and 15 hits. The real star, however, was Troy Munoz who scattered 4 hits and struck out 6, pitching a complete game shut out. The Palms have gone 6-1 since returning to Miami. The Tampa Bay Rays come to town to begin a three game set tomorrow.  Miami Palms 7, Chicago Cubs 0  Sunday, May 20, 2012  Chicago Cubs (0-3)                                       Miami Palms (21-21)                                  ...

Palms 14, Cubs 1

The Palms both battered Cubs started Ryan Dempster, but also received a sharp outing from Javier Vazquez. The game obviously saw a lot of runs, but the key hit that broke the game wide open was a bases loaded triple from Johnny Giavotella in the second inning. There were big innings later, but they were only icing on the cake. The most surprising state was from Frank Sohn. Despite what was going on around him, he managed to go 0-5.  Miami Palms 14, Chicago Cubs 1  Saturday, May 19, 2012  Chicago Cubs (0-2)                                       Miami Palms (20-21)                                      Pl...

Palms 7, Cubs 2

The Palms got to Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija in the 5th inning, when they batted around and scored 4. Frank Sohn and Jaspero Gonzalez added home runs for the run total in the first interleague game of the season. The Palms also saw that they likely made the right decision in putting Felix Gonsales in the rotation, as he pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball.  Miami Palms 7, Chicago Cubs 2  Friday, May 18, 2012  Chicago Cubs (0-1)                                       Miami Palms (20-21)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Orioles 12, Palms 7

As one could imagine with a scoreline such as it was, the pitching for the Palms was suspect. The Orioles managed to string together a whopping 21 hits on their way to 12 runs. Baltimore had their biggest inning in the 8th when they charged past the Palms via Ivan Fernandez. The Palms had made a comeback in the 6th and 7th to take the lead, but the shake bullpen did the Palms in.  Baltimore Orioles 12, Miami Palms 7  Thursday, May 17, 2012  Baltimore Orioles (1-1)                                  Miami Palms (18-21)                                      Player          AB R  H B...
