Palms 3, Orioles 1

Miami moved on to Baltimore to take on their favorite punching bags, the Baltimore Orioles to start a weekend series. Miami opted to give some players the night off, and enjoyed some production from guys that have been quiet this season. The big blow was a 2 run shot from Johnny Giavotella, enough to win the game for Jarod Lantz. Chris Korb also added a solo shot.  Miami Palms 3, Baltimore Orioles 1  Friday, August 4, 2017  Miami Palms (71-39)                                      Baltimore Orioles (4-13)                                 Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Chicago White Sox 5, Palms 4

It was a 1-0 pitchers duel through the first 5 innings, with only a Chris Korb homer to separate the two squads. Yolmer Sanchez hit a two run bomb in the 6th to put Chicago ahead, but Miami strung together 4 extra base hits to move back in front. It was 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th with two out when Tim Anderson and Omar Narvaez hit back to back homers off of Francisco Rodriguez to give the Sox the win.  Chicago White Sox 5, Miami Palms 4  Thursday, August 3, 2017  Miami Palms (70-39)                                      Chicago White Sox (2-2)                                  Player       ...

Palms 8, White Sox 5

This game was not nearly as close as it looked. Miami scored the first 8 runs of the game, including a 2 run homer in the first from Nick Markakis and a big 3 run blast from Carlos Ruiz in the 7th. Lucas Harrell had a good outing, allowing only 2 runs through 8 innings, but Mike Morin struggled through 2/3 of the 9th, allowing the White Sox to make the game a bit more respectable.  Miami Palms 8, Chicago White Sox 5  Wednesday, August 2, 2017  Miami Palms (70-38)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-2)                                  Player          AB R  H...

White Sox 8, Palms 7 (11 innings)

Neither starter helped put their team ina a good spot for victory, each lasting 4 innings and each allowing 6 runs. The bullpens were better, and each pen for 6 frames allowed only one more run, none more dramatic than the 9th inning homer from John Jaso to send the game into extras. The Sox bulldozed Brian Matusz, who allowed a hit and a walk before Omar Narvaez collected his 3rd hit and sending Nick Demonico across the plate to win it.  Chicago White Sox 8, Miami Palms 7  Tuesday, August 1, 2017  Miami Palms (69-38)                                      Chicago White Sox (1-1)                                  Player ...

Palms 5, White Sox 2

You might not believe it because of the scoreline, but this was actually a slugfest. The Palms scored all 5 of their runs on solo home runs, including 4 in the 3rd inning, from Tony Abreu, John Jaso, Jaspero Gonzalez and Edwin Encarnacion. Encarnacion would add another in the 8th to round out the scoring for Miami.  Miami Palms 5, Chicago White Sox 2  Monday, July 31, 2017  Miami Palms (69-37)                                      Chicago White Sox (0-1)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave   ...

Palms 6, A's 1

The Palms ended a dud of a series on a high note, battering Jharel Cotton early on in their game with the Ae's. The Palms were tied at 1 when they batted around in the 3rd and scored 5 times, including having the inning capped with a 2 run Carlos Ruiz home run. They have dropped the last two series, nevertheless, but they finished their homestand 9-7 and will now hit the road for 9 games.  Miami Palms 6, Oakland A's 1  Sunday, July 30, 2017  Oakland A's (4-3)                                        Miami Palms (68-37)                                      Player      ...

A's 9, Palms 6

The Palms couldn't overcome an early offensive barrage from the A's for the third game in a row. Oakland smashed 4 homeruns, including a pair of 2 run homers in the 4th inning. The Palms had a game effort, scoring 6 runs, scattered through 6 innings, but were stymied by Oakland's bullpen.  Oakland A's 9, Miami Palms 6  Saturday, July 29, 2017  Oakland A's (4-2)                                        Miami Palms (67-37)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave   ...

A's 8, Palms 2

The Palms dropped their 4th game in a row, meaning they now sit on their longest losing streak of the season. The game was fairly tight through the first 7 innings, with the A's collecting more hits and more opportunities, but Miami keeping it level with a pair of solo homeruns, with Tony Abreu and Coco Crisp the unlikely culprits. The tight affair was blown wide open in the 8th, however, as Oakland sent 11 to the plate, and scored 6 times, with 4 of those runs coming on a grand slam from Ryan Lavarnway, making his debut for the Oakland.  Oakland A's 8, Miami Palms 2  Friday, July 28, 2017  Oakland A's (3-2)                                        Miami Palms (67-36)                   ...

A's 5, Palms 2

The A's batted around in the 3rd inning, scoring 4 times off of Archie Bradley, accounting for more than half of the runs scored in the game. Miami clawed a couple of runs back, thanks in part to a solo home run from Carlos Ruiz.  Oakland A's 5, Miami Palms 2  Thursday, July 27, 2017  Oakland A's (2-2)                                        Miami Palms (67-35)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player       ...

Bue Jays 3, Palms 2

Miami finally lost their first game series in the month of July, as Toronto used a well timed triple to upend the Palms. Toronto only had 5 hits on Wednesday afternoon, but after Steve Pearce singled, Troy Tulowitzki tripled driving Pearce in, and then scored on a Miguel Montero sac fly. One of the 3 other hits Toronto had was a Jose Bautista solo homer, giving the Blue Jays 3 runs for the game. Miami could not overcome that deficit, failing to capitalize against Marco Estrada or the bullpen.  Toronto Blue Jays 3, Miami Palms 2  Wednesday, July 26, 2017  Toronto Blue Jays (4-3)                                  Miami Palms (67-34)                              ...

Blue Jays 6, Palms 1

Things didn't go well for the Palms in an uncharacteristically bad performance. Jarrod Lantz was knocked out early after giving up 5 runs in 3 innings, four of which came on 2 Justin Smoak home runs. Meanwhile, journeyman Blue Jays starter Cesar Valdez had a career performance as well, limiting Miami to 1 run on 5 hits in a complete game. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday afternoon to settle the series.  Toronto Blue Jays 6, Miami Palms 1  Tuesday, July 25, 2017  Toronto Blue Jays (3-3)                                  Miami Palms (67-33)                                      Player      ...

Sohn busts his slump

Frank Sohn went almost a full month without hitting a home run, which is a troubling and surprising turn for a player who has hit nearly 40 home runs in a season in the prime of his career, and is still good for at least 20. He did it in a big way against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon as well, waiting until the bases were loaded to get his big blast. Sohn has been good for doubles throughout the season, and didn't slump in that regard, but after a day off on Monday, he hopes that he can preserve his power stroke.

Palms 4, Blue Jays 3

Miami continued an impressive homestand by winning another game in the late stages. Neither team was successful at turning hits to runs through the early stages, though Nick Markakis and Kevin Pillar each had solo homers for their respective sides. Toronto nosed ahead in the 7th, but was matched by the Palms in the bottom of the frame. The Palms would walk off winners when Coco Crisp stood on second, and John Jaso lined an RBI single to right center.  Miami Palms 4, Toronto Blue Jays 3  Monday, July 24, 2017  Toronto Blue Jays (2-3)                                  Miami Palms (67-32)                                      Player...
