Palms to face the Brewers once more

The Palms have had an excellent season through mid-June. They have only had one series that didn't go their way this year, either winning or tying every other series. That one series that they didn't win was against the Brewers, at home. Milwaukee swept all three games in that series, somehow. The Palms must now try to right those wrongs, and will be travelling to Milwaukee to kick off another 10 game road trip with a 4 game series. If Milwaukee still has Miami's number, then this could really hamper the Palms' domination in the AL East.

Rays 10, Palms 1

Things didn't go very well for Archie Bradley. His two innings of work were OK, but he only allowed 1 run before being pulled due to illness. It was JP Howell who really struggled, allowing 6 runs in a fairly awful 6th inningm but it will still be Bradley that gets tagged with the loss. The Rays nearly combined for a shut out, spoiled with 2 outs in the 9th by Johnny Giavotella, who hit his first home run of the year.  Tampa Bay Rays 10, Miami Palms 1  Wednesday, June 14, 2017  Tampa Bay Rays (1-1)                                     Miami Palms (46-22)                                      Player  ...

Palms 4, Rays 3

The Palms opened their season series with the Rays in a dramatic manner, as they trailed until the 8th inning, thanks to a 3 run David Robertson home run. Coco Crisp brought the game to within 1 with a solo homer, but it was Pat Grant with a 2 run blast, his second of the game, to give the Palms the lead, and ultimately, he victory.  Miami Palms 4, Tampa Bay Rays 3  Tuesday, June 13, 2017  Tampa Bay Rays (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (46-21)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Blue Jays 4, Palms 3

The Palms held the leadd beginning in the 6th inning, when Frank Sohn gave Miami the lead with a solo home run. They had their first two runs thanks to a 2 run shot from Edwin Encarnacion in the first inning, but it was his replacement in Toronto, Kendrys Morales, who stole the show. With a runner already on base, Morales hit a 2 run homer to spoil things for the Palms and earn a split for the series.  Toronto Blue Jays 4, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, June 11, 2017  Miami Palms (45-21)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (2-2)                                  Player        ...

Palms 8, Blue Jays 7 (Game 2)

The second game of the day was a bit more free swinging than the one earlier in the afternoon. The Plms and Blue Jays went back and forth through the 5th inning, after which the Palms simply started to put some distance between themselves and Toronto, though the Blue Jays did try to make it a tight game, continuing to keep it close, even if they couldn't draw the game level.  Miami Palms 8, Toronto Blue Jays 7  Saturday, June 10, 2017  Miami Palms (45-20)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (1-2)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB S...

Blue Jays 3, Palms 0 (Game 1)

Both teams will be quite happy with this outcome, given how many pitchers were used the night before. Both Lucas Harrell and Joe Biagini worked deep into the game, working 7 and 8 innings respectively. For Biagini, though, he got run support, particularly in the form of a 2 run Russell Martin home run. The Palms were unable to push a run across the plate, dropping game one of their double header.  Toronto Blue Jays 3, Miami Palms 0  Saturday, June 10, 2017  Miami Palms (44-20)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (1-1)                                  Player        ...

Palms prepare for a scheduled double header

The Blue Jays and their fans don't often get to see double headers, thanks to their closed stadium, so the MLB overlords have decided to give them one on the schedule. The Palms are in town, and after a 14 inning game on Friday, the two teams will square off for a twin bill. Both teams will be in something of a lurch because they used so many pitchers on Friday night, but obviously, both squads hope they can get some innings from their starters. It's an unusual proposition, but both teams are looking forward to treating fans to a fun Saturday afternoon,

Palms 9, Blue Jays 7 - 14 innings

With a scheduled double header on Saturday, neither the Palms nor the Blue Jays wanted to see a game like this. Toronto led 5-4 in the 9th, when Jaspero Gonzalez collected an RBI triple to draw things level at 5. The Palms scored two in the 11th but the Blue Jays circled back and tied the game back uup again. In the 14th, the Palms took the lead again and for good when Miami had a rare triple from Carlos Ruiz, driving one in and then scoring on a sacrifice fly a batter later.  Miami Palms 9, Toronto Blue Jays 7  Friday, June 9, 2017  Miami Palms (44-19)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (0-1)                              ...

Palms 9, Red Sox 0

The Palms are on a road trip, visiting Houston and Boston to begin the month of June, and to this point, they have not lost a game this month. On Thursday, it was Manny Parra pitching a complete game shutout, in which he struck out 8 and didn't allow a hit after the 4th inning. The Palms were fortunate in that David Price had serious struggles with finding the plate, walking 5 in his 4 inning appearance. Frank Sohn drove in 5, thanks in large part to a pair of doubles. The Palms now head to Toronto for a four game set.  Miami Palms 9, Boston Red Sox 0  Thursday, June 8, 2017  Miami Palms (43-19)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-7)                       ...

Palms 9, Red Sox 4

After a rough week for the bullpen, the Palms went out and hit 6 home runs to give the pitching staff a day off. Jarod Lantz' appearance was only 5 innings, as he was driven out mostly by Xander Bogaerts who drove in 3 runs, including 2 on a home run. The Palms had two homers from Tony Abreu, and another pair from Frank Sohn. The game was touch and go until the pen, led by Mike Morine came in and shut the Red Sox down, while the Palms just kept slugging.  Miami Palms 9, Boston Red Sox 4  Wednesday, June 7, 2017  Miami Palms (42-19)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-6)                                  ...

The bullpen is straining, but succeeding

In the last 4 games, the Palms have had 2 games go deep into extra innings, and another with a short start, meaning the bullpen has been putting in overtime. The rotation got a win out of Archie Bradley in the mean time, and only had a blown save from Cody Allen, but otherwise, the bullpen has picked up three wins, including two for Brian Matusz, and has done a very good job at occupying the back ends of games. Everyone but Allen now has an ERA in the 3's or lower.

Palms 8, Red Sox 6 - 15 innings

The Palms took earned their 5th win in a row, but they certainly made it difficult on fans. They took a 5-3 run into the 7th inning, but Mitch Moreland hit a 2 run home run to draw the Red Sox level. This would be the last scoring for another 7 innings, as both bullpens held their adversaries at bay until the 15th inning. John Jaso collected an RBI triple in the top of the 15th, and scored on a Nick Markakis sacrafice fly. Frank Sohn would hit an RBI triple later in the inning as well, putting a bow on a game in which both homered in the first inning. The Red Sox clawed one run back in the bottom of the inning, but Francisco Rodriguez managed to earn the save.  Miami Palms 8, Boston Red Sox 6  Tuesday, June 6, 2017  Miami Palms (41-19)                                      Boston Red Sox (6...

Palms 8, Astros 7

Pitchers beware, as the Palms and Astros combined to hit 7 home runs, including 5 for the Palms, three of which came in a row in the 2nd inning. Still, by the third inning, the Astros had pulled in front and knocked Lucas Harrell out early. The Palms, however, weren't done scoring, and hit two more homers in the 6th, including Greg Garcia's second of the game, and a 2 run blast from Nick Markakis. Then, after a a 6 inning barrage by both teams, the scoring was over, stymied by effective bullpens. The Palms swept the Astros in Houston, usurping the top spot in the American League.  Miami Palms 8, Houston Astros 7  Sunday, June 4, 2017  Miami Palms (40-19)                                      Houston Astros (0-3)             ...

Palms 9, Astros 1

After the marathon on Friday night, the Palms finished things off quickly on Saturday, scoring 9 runs off of Lance McCullers. John Jaso was a home run short of the cycle and drove in three runs, but it was Chris Korb and his three run homer that dealt the biggest blow to the AL West leaders with one swing. Archie Bradley worked into the 7th inning, striking out 6 and having his best outing of the season.  Miami Palms 9, Houston Astros 1  Saturday, June 3, 2017  Miami Palms (39-19)                                      Houston Astros (0-2)                                     Player     ...

Palms 4, Astros 3 (14 innings)

The teams with the best record in the American League didn't disappoint as they got the month of June started. Dallas Kuechel did a better job of keeping his opponents in check, with only two hits allowed. Unfortunately, for Kuechel, those two hits were a triple and a home run, with both hits turning into runs. When he left, the Astros trailed 2-1, but in the 9th inning, Josh Reddick drove in the game tying run with a double. The Astros would then take the lead in the 13th inning, but Frank Sohn drove in the game tying run in the bottom of the inning. Luke Gregerson couldn't get anyone out, with Greg Garcia capping the inning with a walk off single.  Miami Palms 4, Houston Astros 3  Friday, June 2, 2017  Houston Astros (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (38-19)  ...
