Palms 12, Padres 6

Miami had their first interleague game under the new MLB scheduling guidelines, and it went well offensively. The Palms scored in all but two innings in their first ever meeting with the Padres, while netting 17 hits. Everyone in the lineup had at least one. Don Schoppe at least managed to get 6 innings of work in, hopefully sparing the bullpen for a little while.  Miami Palms 12, San Diego Padres 6  Tuesday, April 30, 2013  San Diego Padres (0-1)                                   Miami Palms (13-11)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Palms 10, Athletics 7

The Palms finally had a decent pitching outing, but the work the relief has endured in their 4 game set against Oakland was evident. Tim Byrdak came in the 7th when Lucas Harrell ran into some problems, and allowed 2 inherited runners to score. He then allowed the A's to score their 7th run in the 8th inning, but despite his struggles, there was nobody fresh enough to take Byrdak's spot in the 9th. The A's 'pen had problems of their own. Billy Dupont tied the game again at 6 with a mammoth upper deck homer off of Ryan Cook. In the bottom of the 9th, Steve Drysdale broke the 7-7 tie by hitting a home run of his own. Grant Balfour started the inning with a 1 run lead, but was unable to retire a batter as the Palms walked off winners of a series split.  Miami Palms 10, Oakland Athletics 7  Sunday, April 28, 2013  Oakland Athletics (2-2)                       ...

Infielder: Chris Korb

Rookie Chris Korb will likely patrol the left side of the infield when Martin Prado or Tony Abreu need a day off. So far, he has proved to be a little aggressive at the plate with nearly as many strike outs as hits, and a .259 average. One of his hits, however, was a monster home run that hit the beach beyond the right field plaza, the first Palms player to ever do that. Still, his greatest benefit will be his versatility in the infield.

Athletics 11, Palms 3

It was another disastrous start for Miami pitchers, as the A's jumped all over Blake Johnston, scoring 8 runs in the 2nd inning. Miami's offense came from three solo home runs, two of which came from Frank Sohn, who apparently only hit's home runs in pairs. Lucas Harrell will try to redeem the rotation in a matinee on Sunday.  Oakland Athletics 11, Miami Palms 3  Saturday, April 27, 2013  Oakland Athletics (2-1)                                  Miami Palms (11-11)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave...

Palms 9, Athletics 6

After a terrible outing from Troy Munoz, in which he only went one inning and allowed 6 hits, a walk and a hit batter, this game belonged to the bullpen. They combined for 8 innings in which only 1 run was allowed. The strong outing was enough to allow the offense to get back into the game. It was 5-3 going into the 7th inning after the Palms got home runs from Steve Drysdale and Nick Markakis. Miami grabbed 2 more dingers in the 7th as Billy Dupont led off with a solo shot and two batters later, Markakis hit another 2 run shot. The Palms would add 3 more to salt the game, and their come back, away.  Miami Palms 9, Oakland Athletics 6  Friday, April 26, 2013  Oakland Athletics (1-1)                                  Miami Palms (11-10)            ...

A's 12, Palms 2

The Palms were beaten up by the A's in their first meeting of the season. Rookie Kyle Blume struggled against the Athletics, working only 2 innings before getting bounced out. Brandon Moss was the big hitter, with a grand slam. The A's slowed their scoring down in later innings, but they were already too far in front to be caught, especially when Miami could only manage 4 hits off of Jarrod Parker and Chris Resop.  Oakland Athletics 12, Miami Palms 2  Thursday, April 25, 2013  Oakland Athletics (1-0)                                  Miami Palms (10-10)                                      Player     ...

Palms 9, White Sox 1

The Palms are having a tough time getting out on the field this year. Wednesday was their 3rd rain out already this season, but they were able to play a chilly day game today. Speaking of chilly, Frank Sohn hadn't hit a home run yet this season after hitting 30 the past two years. He hit an opposite field shot that inched over the wall in the 6th, and then in the 7th, managed to notch his second, only an inning after his first. Don Schoppe had a dominant start, allowing only one run on a late solo homer.  Miami Palms 9, Chicago White Sox 1  Wednesday, April 24, 2013  Chicago White Sox (0-2)                                  Miami Palms (10-9)                            ...

Palms 4, White Sox 1 (11 innings)

The Palms got back to .500 in dramatic fashion on Monday night. Lucas Harrell and Dylan Axelrod had excellent games, going 7.1 and 8 innings, respectively, allowing the bullpen to decide the game. The White Sox had opportunities in the 10th and 11th, but it was the Palms that seized on theirs. Billy Dupont was walked with 1 out, and the second out came when Nick Markakis grounded into a fielder's choice. Tony Abreu kept the game alive with a single, and then Kelly Johnson ended it with a walk off winner.  Miami Palms 4, Chicago White Sox 1  Monday, April 22, 2013  Chicago White Sox (0-1)                                  Miami Palms (9-9)                             ...

Yankees 8, Palms 1

Things got ugly for Miami in the rubber match against the Yankees. The Palms only collected 5 hits off of Ivan Nova, including a solo shot from Billy Dupont. The Yankees were beneficiaries of the longball, with three 2 run homers adding up to 6 of the teams' 8 runs. The 5th inning was when the game was broken open as the New York had two blasts, from Eduardo Nunez and Brett Gardner respectively.  New York Yankees 8, Miami Palms 1  Sunday, April 21, 2013  New York Yankees (3-3)                                   Miami Palms (8-9)                                        Player      ...

Starting Pitcher: Blake Johnston

Blake Johnston has been a reliever for the past four seasons in Miami, with the first and last seasons being quite good, and the middle too being less than exceptional. After 2011, it was wondered if Johnston would even be bck, but Johnston used good control to put together a better season. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher, but with the outfield the Palms have, that shouldn't be much of a problem so long as the ball stays in the park.

Yankees 5, Palms 3

Troy Munoz struggled in the 3rd and 4th innings, allowing the Yankees to score all 5 of their runs, but he was dominant in the other 6 innings he worked out. Munoz struck out 7 and scattered 7 hits through 7 innings. Unfortunately, most of those hits were strung together for the Yankees, including a two run Eduardo nunez blast. The Palms had two hits when Chris Korb hit not only his first career home run, but became the first player to hit the ball to the beach in right field since the team opened up shop.  New York Yankees 5, Miami Palms 3  Saturday, April 20, 2013  New York Yankees (2-3)                                   Miami Palms (8-8)                           ...

Palms 7, Yankees 1

The Palms made it look easy against the Yankees. Rookie Kyle Blume struck out 7 and scattered 9 hits while allowing only one run. The Palms were good at the plate as well, but their best swings were home runs from Kelly Johnson and Steve Drysdale that netted 5 of the teams' 7 runs. The Palms now get to enjoy an extended home stand.  Miami Palms 7, New York Yankees 1  Friday, April 19, 2013  New York Yankees (1-3)                                   Miami Palms (8-7)                                        Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Rangers 4, Palms 0

It's been tough to get a game in for the Palms so far this year. Thursday's game was postponed and will be replayed on May 13th on a one game trip to Arlington. On Friday night, the Palms may not have realized they were supposed to be playing. They managed only two hits off of Alexi Ogando, and were done in by a three run blast by his battery mate Jon Bogaard. The Palms return home tomorrow for an extended homestand starting with a set against the Yankees.  Texas Rangers 4, Miami Palms 0  Thursday, April 18, 2013  Miami Palms (7-7)                                        Texas Rangers (1-1)                                ...

Palms 13, Rangers 5

The ball was jumping off of Miami bats in Texas tonight. Carlos Ruiz hit two, while Nick Markakis and Steve Drysdale added dingers of their own. Ruiz added two more runs batted in with a double, bringing his total to 6 for the game. Joe Mather collected 4 hits, continuing his surprising start. The Palms, with their victory, now have their first winning streak of the season.  Miami Palms 13, Texas Rangers 5  Tuesday, April 16, 2013  Miami Palms (7-6)                                        Texas Rangers (0-1)                                      Player        ...
