Palms 3, Rays 1 (10 innings)

The cross state rivalry in Florida provided fans with a bonus inning after Jarod Lantz and Matt Andriese battled to a 1-1 draw over the course of 9 innings. after each team scored in the 2nd, it appeared as though the two teams were on their way to a high scoring affair. Instead, neither side could score again until the top of the 10th, when Tony Abreu had a 2 run single with two outs to win it for the road team.  Miami Palms 3, Tampa Bay Rays 1  Monday, May 30, 2016  Miami Palms (24-26)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (0-1)                                     Player    ...

Orioles 7, Palms 2

Miami would have been fine, were it not for Manny Machado. The Orioles' shortstop had two home runs off of Odrisamer Despaigne, accounting for 4 of Baltimore's runs. The Palms were able to hit two home runs as well, but theirs were only solo shots from Frank Sohn and Brett Hayes. Otherwise, Chris Tillman was dominant, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 4.  Baltimore Orioles 7, Miami Palms 2  Sunday, May 29, 2016  Miami Palms (23-26)                                      Baltimore Orioles (4-3)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Orioles 5, Palms 1

Baltimore had a very good pitching outing form Ubaldo Jimenez, who struck out 11 over 6 innings. Vance Worley and Mychal Givens struck out 3 and 1 respectively. The Palms reached base most typically through walk, as they only had 5 hits and 5 walks. TJ McFarland struggled in the 7th, but otherwise pitched a complete game, in large part to spare an overworked bullpen.  Baltimore Orioles 5, Miami Palms 1  Saturday, May 28, 2016  Miami Palms (23-25)                                      Baltimore Orioles (3-3)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P...

Palms 11, Orioles 10 (10 innings)

The Orioles scored 6 runs in the first inning and knocked Blake Johnston out of the Game after only 2 innings, but the Palms slgged their way back into the game in short order. Nick Markakis had a bases clearing double, a busy 5th inning and the final go ahead Chris Korb single in the 8th. Unfortunately, Francisco Rodriguez blew a save when Nolan Reimold led off with his second home run of the day in the 9th. The Palms came back in the top of the 10th, and with two runners on, Frank Sohn hit the double that brought in the eventual game winner as Miami draws closer to .500.  Miami Palms 11, Baltimore Orioles 10  Friday, May 27, 2016  Miami Palms (23-24)                                      Baltimore Orioles (2-3)             ...

Palms 8, Braves 1

The Palms took all 4 games from the Braves, two in Miami and two in Atlanta. They did it in a more definitive manner on Thursday afternoon. The Palms scored their necessary runs in the first when Chris Korb hit a long 3 run blast off of Matt Wisler. He later had the game's 4th RBI on an RBI single. The Braves' pen was no help either, as Nick Markakis hit a second 3 run blast for the Palms, followed by a titanic, upper deck bomb by Tony Abreu. Manny Parra pitched well, going 7 innings and allowing but one run.  Miami Palms 8, Atlanta Braves 1  Thursday, May 26, 2016  Miami Palms (22-24)                                      Atlanta Braves (0-4)                         ...

Palms 4, Braves 0`

The Palms and Braves switched facilities for the third game of their 3 game set, but Frank Sohn picked up where he left off. After walking off a inner Tuesday afternoon, Sohn had a double and a home run in the first game in Atlanta. Sohn's two run blast in the 8th put the game securely in the hands of the Palms. Jarod Lantz was the real star, however, managing to fire a complete game shut out with only 79 pitches, thanks to a 5 hit game with 4 strikeouts.  Miami Palms 4, Atlanta Braves 0  Wednesday, May 25, 2016  Miami Palms (21-24)                                      Atlanta Braves (0-3)                                  ...

Palms 7, Braves 4 (12 innings)

An afternoon game against the Braves went a little long on Tuesday. Atlanta held a lead for most of the game, initially 2-1, then 3-1 and finally 4-3 after 4 innings, thanks to home runs by Gordon Beckham and Mallex Smith, and timely hitting in the 2nd inning. The Palms came back and tied it in the 8th when Coco Crisp snagged a double to drive in Tony Abreu from third. The game went to extra frames, with Miami's bullpen doing yeoman's work, and the Pams threatening. In the bottom of the 12th, Miami had runners on the corners and one away, and Frank Sohn came up and crushed one to the left field bleachers for a walk off victory.  Miami Palms 7, Atlanta Braves 4  Tuesday, May 24, 2016  Atlanta Braves (0-2)                                     Miami Palms (20-24)      ...

Palms 13, Braves 6

In a game where the Palms scored 13 runs, it is possible that the game wasn't as close as it seemed. John Jaso had 5 RBI, thanks t a bases loaded triple and two RBI singles, while Carlos Ruiz hit two home runs and Chris Korb also had a bases loaded triple. Though Nick Markakis and Tony Abreu failed to get a hit, every Palm reached base at least once. TJ McFarland got the win, going 8 innings and striking out 7, though a 3 run homer in the th by Gordon Beckham made his numbers look a bit less glamorous.  Miami Palms 13, Atlanta Braves 6  Monday, May 23, 2016  Atlanta Braves (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (19-24)                           ...

Palms 12, Angels 3

Miami took the lead early, scoring 3 in the first thanks to a pair of home runs, including a lead off blast from John Jaso, and another 2 batters later from Tony Abreu. The game was broken wide open in the 5th when Johnny Giavotella cleared the bases with a grand slam. Not two innings later, Giavotella was on first with the bases loaded when Jaso hit a grand slam of his own to seal the deal. CJ Cron had two home runs, accounting for all of Anaheim's runs.  Miami Palms 12, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3  Sunday, May 22, 2016  Miami Palms (18-24)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (4-2)                      Player       ...

Angels 5, Palms 4

The Palms hit 3 home runs on Saturday afternoon, but the Angels had one big one when it counted. Anaheim scored 4 runs in the third thanks to a handful of walks and capped by a 2 run, CJ Cron single, but Brett Hayes tied it in the next inning with a 2 run shot, the third homer of the game after solo jobs from Edwin Encarnacion and Tony Abreu. The score was static until the 8th inning, when Albert Pujols launched one to the left field bleachers to secure the victory for the Angels.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 5, Miami Palms 4  Saturday, May 21, 2016  Miami Palms (17-24)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (4-1)                      Player  ...

Palms 10, Angels 6

After losing every game in Miami to the Angels, the Palms went to Los Angeles and took Game 1 of their series in convincing fashion. The Palms collected 4 home runs, scoring their first 3 runs on solo shots, and had their biggest run scoring hit when Coco Crisp had a bases loaded double. The Palms had 8 solid innings of work by their staff, but Jarrod Lantz' final inning, the 6th, saw the Angels bat around and make the game more interesting than it probably should have been.  Miami Palms 10, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 6  Friday, May 20, 2016  Miami Palms (17-23)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (3-1)                      Player   ...

The resurgence of Nick Markakis

After a brutal year last season, Nick Markakis seems to be back on track. He has moved to a regular spot at #2 in the lineup thanks to his blistering start. He hasn't fond much of a power stroke, but he is hitting .346 and his OBP is .386, which is phenomenal. If Markakis can keep this up, he will be a vitally important piece as the team tries to fight back into contention.

Palms 16, Twins 6

The Palms managed 25 hits, scoring 16 runs against the Minnesota Twins, including an 8 run third inning. Gregor Blanco had for RBI and 2 triples, while the Twins also hit a pair of home runs, with Tony Abreu and Kelly Johnson going yard. Odrisamer Despaigne worked to the 5th to earn his first win with Miami.  Miami Palms 16, Minnesota Twins 6  Wednesday, May 18, 2016  Miami Palms (16-23)                                      Minnesota Twins (1-2)                                    Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave  ...
