Blue Jays 4, Palms 3 (17 innings)

The Palms and Blue Jays didn't want to quit on Saturday night. The Jays took an early 3-0 lead, but gave it up by the end of the 8th after the Miami bats finally came alive. They went back to sleep in the extra frames. They did threaten in the 15th after a lead off triple from Frank Sohn, but he could not make it to the plate, giving the Jays an opportunity to win thanks to a solo homer from Devon Travis in the 17th inning.  Toronto Blue Jays 4, Miami Palms 3  Saturday, September 1, 2018      Toronto Blue Jays (4-5)                                  Miami Palms (75-60)                                      Player ...

Blue Jays 8, Palms 2

After 1 inning, the Palms and Blue Jays were locked into a 2-2 affair into the middle innings. Toronto got to Manny Parra in the 6th however, and capped a 4 run inning with a 3 run blast from Devon Travis. The Palms were unable to muster much after an active first couple of innings, and the bullpen let more runs flutter away as Miami saw their playoff window grow a little bit smaller.  Toronto Blue Jays 8, Miami Palms 2  Friday, August 31, 2018      Toronto Blue Jays (3-5)                                  Miami Palms (75-59)                                      Player        ...

Palms in a fight for the postseason

The AL East has been extremely talented this season. They sit at 75-58, which isn't a bad record, however they are in 3rd place in the division and 18 games out of the first place Boston Red Sox. They likely won't claim 2nd either, as they are 8.5 games behind the 2nd place Yankees. Their best chance at the playoffs, then, is the 2nd wild card spot, but even there, the road is uphill, as they are 4 games out from the Oakland Athletics, even though Miami has swept the season series with the A's. With one month left in the season, the Palms have their work cut out for them. The A's are catchable, but even if Miami surpasses them, they will be faced with a tough test in New York, and a likely series with Boston if they get there. They will need to be at their best for the last month.

Palms 5, Rangers 1

The Palms got a much needed performance from Jarod Lantz, who worked 8 innings while limiting Texas to one run. The Palms were also encouraged, no doubt, but a prolific offense. Despite stranding a lot of runners, they were relentless in their hitting, with 16 hits leading to only 5 runs. Still the persistence paid off, even if they weren't terribly efficient, and they split their series with the Rangers before a second day off in the week.  Miami Palms 5, Texas Rangers 1  Wednesday, August 29, 2018      Texas Rangers (2-3)                                      Miami Palms (75-58)                                  ...

The Palms offer no surprises

The Palms look to be about the truest to themselves as they could possibly be. They aren't hiding anything. Miami has had a better record at home than on the road, playing 39-22 in Miami and 35-36 on the road. They are a little bit above .500 in 1 run games, but not noticeably so, at 22-16. They have also played 1 game below .500 at 8-9 in extra innings. If there is any advantage to be leveled off, it is that they have played fewer home games. Hopefully this home stand is a propellant towards the playoffs.

Rangers 11, Palms 4

The Rangers came out swinging in their first game at Palms Park this season. They batted around and scored 4 times on 6 hits in the first inning, but Miami tried to make it interesting in the middle frames. Unfortunately for the Palms, the Rangers bats weren't done, as they started collecting home runs, with Jurickson Profar, Adrian Beltre and Shin Soo Choo collecting solo shots, and Robinson Chrinos hitting two.  Texas Rangers 11, Miami Palms 4  Tuesday, August 28, 2018      Texas Rangers (2-2)                                      Miami Palms (74-58)                                      Player...

Palms 5. A's 1

In what will ultimately be one of the stranger anomalies of the 2018 season, the Palms completed a season sweep of the Oakland A's. The 7th game of their series this season with Oakland started extremely well for the Palms, when Pat Grant hit a solo home run. The next two batters hit singles, and the Edwin Encarnacion followed with a three run blast. The Palms would also get good performances from Lucas Harrell who pitched a complete game, and Greg Garcia who went 4/4 with a run scored.  Miami Palms 5, Oakland A's 1  Sunday, August 26, 2018      Oakland A's (0-7)                                        Miami Palms (74-57)                         ...

Palms 4, A's 3

This one was a thriller that the Palms left late. The A's took an early lead on a Khris Davis home run, and expanded it when Marcus Semien hit a two run blast. They sat on a 3-0 lead until the Palms started clawing back in the 6th when Chris Korb had an RBI single. Korb would make it closer when he homered off of Lou Trivino, who had replaced an effective Mike Fiers. It was 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th against closer Blake Treinen, when Tony Abreu hit his 15th homer of the year, this with Pat Grant on first, resulting in a walk off win for Miami.  to Miami Palms 4, Oakland A's 3  Saturday, August 25, 2018      Oakland A's (0-6)                                        Miami Palms (73-57)              ...

Palms 3. A's 2

The A's got an early jump on the Palms, when Khris Davis hit a 2 run homer to take the lead. Things turned around in the 5th, when Jaspero Gonzalez hit a solo home run, followed by a 2 run double later in the inning from Pat Grant put Miami ahead. Manny Parra's final 7 innings were spotless, while Brian Matusz had a harmless inning to close.  Miami Palms 3, Oakland A's 2  Friday, August 24, 2018      Oakland A's (0-5)                                        Miami Palms (72-57)                                      Player          AB R  H BI B...

Palms 7, Blue Jays 6

Miami was able to draw level in this four game set in Toronto thanks largely to the big bat of Chris Korb. He had a pair of home runs which scored 5 of his team's runs. The Palms came back from a 5-3 deficit on one of Korb's homers, a three run blast, but Toronto came bac in the bottom of the inning. An RBI fielder's choice from Brett Hayes put the Palms ahead for good. After a sluggish start from Jarod Lantz, Mike Morin jumped in and threw 70 pitches over 4+ innings of work.  Miami Palms 7, Toronto Blue Jays 6  Thursday, August 23, 2018      Miami Palms (71-57)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (2-5)                           ...

Blue Jays 6, Palms 4

Toronto leaned on the long ball to battle back against he Palms on Wednesday evening. Miami took a 4-2 lead, but a run in the 6th followed by a solo blast from Teoscar Hernandez in the 8th to tie it. In the 9th, inning, with two outs, it was Randal Grichuk's time to shine, as he hit a two run homer off of Braden Shipley to give Toronto the walk off victory, and end a very bad road trip for the Palms.  Toronto Blue Jays 6, Miami Palms 4  Wednesday, August 22, 2018      Miami Palms (70-57)                                      Toronto Blue Jays (2-4)                                  Player     ...
