Palms 4, Orioles 0

Miami closed out their third sweep in a row and 9th game victory in a row, and it was done in dominating fashion. Edwin Encarnacion was an offensive star, hitting a three run homer in the 3rd inning, but all eyes will be on Jarod Lantz, who pitched a complete game 2 hitter, striking out 8 along the way. They will travel to the Bronx to play the Yankees and see if they can keep their run alive.  Miami Palms 4, Baltimoe Orioles 0  Wednesday, June 6, 2018  Baltimoe Orioles (1-3)                                   Miami Palms (33-27)                                      Player        ...

Palms 5, Orioles 2

For the first few innings, it seemed as though only Tony Abreu and Blake Johnston came to play against the Orioles. Abreu had two solo home runs to account for the only two runs for Miami until the 7th inning. The Palms scored three times in the 7th, including another RBI for Abreu, which was more than enough for the very effective Johnston, who continues his solid start.  Miami Palms 5, Baltimoe Orioles 2  Tuesday, June 5, 2018  Baltimoe Orioles (1-2)                                   Miami Palms (32-27)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Palms 10, Astros 4

The Astros jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks in large part to a 2 run Yuli Gurriel home run, but that was it for Houston on Sunday afternoon. The Palms came back immediately, as Frank Sohn hit a three run homer. The Palms scored 3 runs in each of the first three innings, as Tony Abreu also hit a three run blast, and Sohn would homer again, and ended up with 5 RBI total for the game. After a rough patch, the Palms are now winners of 7 straight.  Miami Palms 10, Houston Astros 4  Sunday, June 3, 2018  Houston Astros (3-3)                                     Miami Palms (31-27)                                  ...

Parra in control

Manny Parra is dominating the strike zone for the Palms this season. The Palms have never been a team that boasts a huge strikeout rate, but some how, Manny Parra can point to a fantastic 7.625 K/BB ratio, the best among Miami starters. The veteran starter has only walked 8 betters this season, which is in itself one of the lowest walk rates in the league, which allows his 6.5K/9 to play even more dominantly than it would otherwise. The bullpen offers a couple of other outlanding K/BB ratios, with Keith Harding sitting at 12 and Mike Morin at 7.

Palms 6, Astros 5

The game was a taut, well pitched affair until it got topsy-turvy in the latter innings. The Palms scored twice in the 7th to go ahead for the first time, but Evan Gattis hit a two run homer to put the Astros back in the lead. The Palms scored two more times again in the 8th, when they led off with doubles, and Greg Garcia drove in the game winner with a single. Brian Matusz continued his improved form, earning another save. fg Miami Palms 6, Houston Astros 5  Saturday, June 2, 2018  Houston Astros (3-2)                                     Miami Palms (30-27)                                      Player  ...

Palms 2, Astros 1

The Palms looked like their offensive momentum came home from Oakland with them, when they had three extra base hits in the 2nd inning, including a 2 run home run from Chris Korb, but Gerrit Cole locked the Palms down from that point forward, scattering 4 hits in a complete game effort. Manny Parra was even more effective, striking out 8 and scattering 5 hits in 8 innings and delivering a victory for the Palms at home.  Miami Palms 2, Houston Astros 1  Friday, June 1, 2018  Houston Astros (3-1)                                     Miami Palms (29-27)                                      Player   ...

Palms 11, A's 2

After coming into the series with the A's woebegone and directionless, the Palms secured a 4 game road sweep. This time, they jumped on young starter Daniel Mengden, with Tony Abreu and Jaspero Gonzalez homering back to back in an inning the team batted around. The Palms would collect a couple more homers, including a second bomb from Gonzalez, and a 2 run shot from Chris Korb. The Palms pitching staff was largely effective, but everyone that took the mound had to pitch out of at least one jam with a runner on third. The Palms come home to begin June.  Miami Palms 11, Oakland A's 2  Thursday, May 31, 2018  Miami Palms (28-27)                                      Oakland A's (0-4)                  ...

Palms 9, A's 0

This game must have been cathartic for Miami. Blake Johnston worked 8 scoreless innings, while the offense came alive against A's ace Sean Manaea. They hit three home runs, including a leadoff blast from Pat Grant, and the second homer from Frank Sohn in the past two days. With the victory, Miami has found their way back to .500.  Miami Palms 9, Oakland A's 0  Wednesday, May 30, 2018  Miami Palms (27-27)                                      Oakland A's (0-3)                                        Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Palms 5, A's 3

The Palms are now on a winning streak, taking their second in a row in Oakland, with a huge tip of the hat to Frank Sohn, who hit a 3 run home run in the first inning. Fortunately, the Palms kept pressing beyond that big first inning, scoring two in the 4th, as in the bottom half of that frame, the A's scored twice on a Stephen Piscotty home run to reach 3 runs as well. The rest of the game was locked down by the A's bullpen and Lucas Harrell, and closed effortlessly by Brian Matusz.  Miami Palms 5, Oakland A's 3  Tuesday, May 29, 2018  Miami Palms (26-27)                                      Oakland A's (0-2)                              ...

Palms 4, A's 3

The Palms seemed to have lost the handle on this game as well, continuing a trend over the last couple of weeks. They held a 1-0 lead until the 6th inning, when the A's started clawing back, and took the lead on a 2 run home run from Matt Olson. Trevor Cahill held the shorthanded Palms pinned down until the 9th inning. Nick Markakis tied the game with a 2 run double, and then was driven home when Tony Abreu hit a triple. Brian Matusz finally settled in for a save, more good news on Memorial Day in Oakland.  Miami Palms 4, Oakland A's 3  Monday, May 28, 2018  Miami Palms (25-27)                                      Oakland A's (0-1)                          ...

Suspensions handed down

After the fracas in Kansas City on Sunday, the Palms will be without three players on Memorial Day. Edwin Encarnacion and Brock Holt will receive a game for their roles in the melee, while Travis Jankowski is getting a day off for comments he made regarding his ejection

Royals 7, Palms 5 (11 innings)

There was a lot going on in this game. The Palms jumped out to a 4 run lead and looked to have all the momentum on their side, but to get there, Jaspero Gonzalez blasted a mammoth home run to left field, which rankled starting pitcher Jason Hammel. After throwing behind Edwin Encarnacion, the next batter, Hammel connected, and the benches cleared into a long lasting melee that seemed to have changed momentum. For the Palms, Encarnacion was ejected, as was Brock Holt who came screaming into the fracas from the dugout. Travis Jankowski was also tossed, though it appeared he was hit in the legs and fell onto the scuffle late. Losing their center fielder, DH and backup outfielder took the wind out of Miami's sails, but also invigorated Kansas City. They were down 5-1 entering the 8th, and scored two, including a bases loaded walk off of Keith Harding, his first walk of the season. Then, Hunter Dozier tied it in the 9th with a 2 run blast off of Brian Matusz. Dozier struck again in the ...

Royals 1, Palms 0

The Palms' offenive issues continues, with the power completely absent, and Ian Kennedy collecting a shut out, though not a complete game, with Kelvin HErrera coming for a save. Blake Johnston nearly matched his mound rival, going into the 8th inning before Mike Moustakas singled home the window run.  Kansas City Royals 1, Miami Palms 0  Saturday, May 26, 2018  Miami Palms (24-26)                                      Kansas City Royals (2-0)                                 Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Playe...

Royals 2, Palms 1

The Palms have no officially dropped below .500 after dropping the opening game against the Royals in Kansas City. The Royals scored twice on a 2 run homer from Mike Moustakas to acquire all the runs they would need. Lucas Harrell was otherwise very effective in his 6 innings, and Braden Shipley also had 2 good innings in relief. The Palms threatened several times, but only pushed one run across the plate on a run scoring double.  Kansas City Royals 2, Miami Palms 1  Friday, May 25, 2018  Miami Palms (24-25)                                      Kansas City Royals (1-0)                                 Player    ...

Yankees 5, Palms 0

One player the Palms hadn't yet seen in their games with the Yankees this year is starting pitcher Luis Severino... and they hope they miss him going forward. Severino worked 8 shutout innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out 7. The Yankees scored 5 runs, though 1 would have been enough. Miguel Andujar hit one that was part of the 3 hits he collected for New York.  New York Yankees 5, Miami Palms 0  Thursday, May 24, 2018  New York Yankees (3-3)                                   Miami Palms (24-24)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...
