Red Sox Edge Palms in Rainy Fenway Opener

BOSTON — A cold, rainy evening at Fenway Park was just a little too much for the Miami Palms to overcome, as they fell 3–2 to the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. All the offense came early, as the Red Sox struck for three runs in the bottom of the third inning against Miami starter Manny Parra (0–2). Rafael Devers did the bulk of the damage, driving in two runs with a sharp double off the Green Monster. Christian Vazquez followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home what would prove to be the game-winning run. Miami (2–5) answered right back in the fourth, cutting the lead to one. Matt Wieters continued his strong start to the year with an RBI double to right-center, and Yairo Munoz added a run-scoring single. Mike Tauchman launched a pair of home runs and drove in five, while DJ LeMahieu added a three-run blast of his own as the Yankees stormed past the Miami Palms 11–3 on Tuesday night. The Palms close their season-opening homestand with a 2–4 mark and will hit the road for Boston after Wednesday’s off day. “They ambushed us tonight,” said Palms skipper Scott Hatteberg. “We couldn’t keep the ball in the yard, and we just didn’t do enough at the plate to respond.” Jarod Lantz (0–2) labored again in his second start of the year, allowing four runs over five innings, including a three-run homer to Tauchman in the second inning. Blake Johnston tossed seven shutout innings, Jaspero Gonzalez launched his second home run of the season, and the Miami Palms coasted to a 6–0 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Palms Park , ensuring a victory in the three-game set and improving to 2–3 on the young season. “We just needed to get back to our own beds and play in front of our fans,” said manager Scott Hatteberg. “You could feel the difference right away.” That difference was clear on the mound. Johnston (1–0) kept New York guessing, scattering five hits across seven innings while walking just one and striking out five. They left cold, battered, and still searching for answers. Despite a furious ninth-inning rally, Miami dropped its third straight to open the 2020 season, falling 11–7 to the red-hot Minnesota Twins.  Starter Dylan Bundy struggled from the jump, surrendering nine hits and six runs over just 4 1/3 innings. He was chased in the fifth after Miguel Sano doubled home a pair. Adam Conley and Braden Shipley couldn't stop the bleeding, with Conley allowing inherited runners to score, while Shipley was tagged for four runs of his own in the sixth inning. Twins' Power Too Much for Palms in 3-1 Loss

MINNEAPOLIS – The Miami Palms' offense remained ice-cold on a rainy evening at Target Field, as the Minnesota Twins used a trio of home runs to hand Miami a 3-1 defeat. The Palms fell to 0-2 on the young season, still in search of their first win. Veteran left-hander Manny Parra gave Miami everything he had, tossing eight innings and allowing just three runs, but the Twins’ power proved too much. Nelson Cruz, Jorge Polanco, and Eddie Rosario all homered off Parra, accounting for Minnesota’s scoring. “He gave us a real chance to win,” said Palms manager Scott Hatteberg. “We’ve got to give him some help.” The Palms’ bats, however, were once again held in check. Minnesota starter Jake Odorizzi went eight strong innings, striking out nine while surrendering just one run.
