Palms 9, Blue Jays 5

The Palms saw TJ McFarland get knocked out after 4 innings, including a 3rd where the Blue Jays batted around, but McFarland was removed because of a high pitch count. He only allowed 3 runs, which kept Miami in the contest, and in fact, the Palms had the lead at his departure. The game was tied in the 6th when Michael Saunders hit a solo home run and it remained that way until the 9th, when the Palms laid into Drew Storen, batting around and scoring 5 times to take the led and break the game wide open, all in one fell swoop. As a curiosity, Nick Markakis accounted for all 3 outs, striking out and grounding into a double play in his second at bat. That said, Markakis was very good for the first 8 innings, driving in 2 and hitting his first home run of the game. He also had 7 putouts in field, leading the team.  Miami Palms 9, Toronto Blue Jays 5  Friday, April 29, 2016  Miami Palms (9-14)              ...

Palms 9, Astros 3

The Palms finally have a series sweep to hang their hats on after battering Colin McHugh on their way to a 7 run third inning. The big hit was a three run homer from Tony Abreu, but the team sent 11 to the plate, so there were multiple key hits. Blake Johnston had a solid 7 innings, scattering 7 hits with 5 strike outs. The Palms have a day off tonight, and will go to Toronto once again to start a lengthy road trip.  Miami Palms 9, Houston Astros 3  Wednesday, April 27, 2016  Houston Astros (0-3)                                     Miami Palms (8-14)                                       Player  ...

Palms 6, Astros 3

The Palms had two good innings against Dallas Kuechel and the Astros, but that's all they needed. They batted around in the 3rd thanks to Kuechel's control issues, scoring 4 runs, including a pair of runs walked in with the bases loaded. An inning later, the Palms added two more when Frank Sohn hit home run number 5 on the season. Manny Parra was solid through 8 innings, striking out 4 and allowing only 3 runs, including a pair of solo home runs as he earned his second win of the season.  Miami Palms 6, Houston Astros 3  Tuesday, April 26, 2016  Houston Astros (0-2)                                     Miami Palms (7-14)                             ...

Palms 5, Astros 1

Neither team was on base often on Monday night, but the Palms maximized their 6 hits as compared to the Astros but hitting 3 home runs, scoring all 5 of their runs on big blasts. The Astros did get one run on a Carlos Gomez shot, but Jarod Lantz kept the rest of the 'stros at bay through his solid 9 innings of work. John Jaso led the game off with a home run, but Doug Fister calmed down considerably as well, but a pair of 2 run shots from Edwin Encarnacion and Frank Sohn in the 6th and 8th respectively made the game comfortable for Miami's fans.  Miami Palms 5, Houston Astros 1  Monday, April 25, 2016  Houston Astros (0-1)                                     Miami Palms (6-14)                    ...

Blue Jays 8, Palms 4

Odrisamer Despaigne has not had a good start to his Miami career, with another scuffling start coming in Toronto on Sunday. Toronto scored two in the first, but were mostly held in check through the rest of his appearance, except when Russell Martin was concerned. Martin hit two home runs and accounted for 4 of Toronto's runs. Carlos Ruiz also hit two home runs in a losing effort for the Palms.  Toronto Blue Jays 10, Miami Palms 4  Sunday, April 24, 2016  Miami Palms (5-14)                                       Toronto Blue Jays (2-1)                                  Player        ...

Palms 3, Blue Jays 2

The Palms finally broke their extended losing streak on Saturday night claiming victory over the Toronto Blue Jays thanks to a solid pitching performance for the entire staff and some timely hitting by the infield. Tony Abreu had a two run single in the 3rd to take Miami's first lead in the third inning. Toronto tied it again in the 6th, but Johnny Giavotella drove in the game winner with a single in the top of the 7th to secure a much needed victory.  Miami Palms 3, Toronto Blue Jays 2  Saturday, April 23, 2016  Miami Palms (5-13)                                       Toronto Blue Jays (1-1)                                 ...

Blue Jays 7, Palms 4 (13 innings)

The Palms lost another game late, as they held a 4-1 lead as late as the 8th inning, but it became clear that Blake Johnston remained in the game a little too long. With 2 outs in the bottom of the frame, he gave up 2 hits, a walk and another 2 RBI single to Darwin Barney, capping the inning at 3 total runs. 5 innings later, the Jays had 2 on and two out when Jose Bautista came to the plate, launching a walk off winning home run. The Palms are now on an 8 game losing streak  Toronto Blue Jays 7, Miami Palms 4  Friday, April 22, 2016  Miami Palms (4-13)                                       Toronto Blue Jays (1-0)                            ...

Palms off to a rough start

After starting their season 3-4 after series with the Yankees and A's, the Palms have been slumping badly. They've only won once since that start concluded, and have been swept now in their past two series. They have stopped hitting home runs, which is a huge problem, but much of the issue needs to fall on the pitching and bullpen, which have a collective ERA over 6, and a FIP that is even higher. The Palms need some good performances and soon to right the ship. They have a tough series with Toronto coming up from Canada.

Tigers 6, Palms 2

Manny Parra pitched a beautiful game, striking out 10 through 8 innings and allowing only one run on a Jarrod Saltalamacchia home run. Things took an ugly turn, however, in the top of the 9th. With two out and a runner on, Nick Castellanos hit a go ahead homer off of K-Rod. Just to ensure that the Palms weren't coming back, they added two more home runs to make a game the Palms dominate look like a Tigers blow out.  Detroit Tigers 6, Miami Palms 2  Thursday, April 21, 2016  Detroit Tigers (3-0)                                     Miami Palms (4-12)                                       Player  ...

Tigers 11, Palms 2

Jarod Lantz had his first rude introduction into the Majors, as the Detroit Tigers rocked him for three home runs, including 2 from Justin Upton. The Palms couldn't manage to execute when there were runners on, though they didn't stand much chance after a big 8th inning out of the Tigers. Detroit batted around and collected 3 RBI on a bases loaded JD artinez tripple.  Detroit Tigers 11, Miami Palms 2  Wednesday, April 20, 2016  Detroit Tigers (2-0)                                     Miami Palms (4-11)                                       Player          AB R...

Tigers 4, Palms 3

The Palms struggled with Shane Greene in their return to Palms Park on Tuesday night. The Tigers scored three big runs on a JD Martinez homerun. Anthony Gose had two triples, but he only scored when he hit a home run himself. The Palms had two home runs as well, a solo shot by Chris Korb, and a two run blast from Coco Crisp to make it close late in the game.  Detroit Tigers 4, Miami Palms 3  Tuesday, April 19, 2016  Detroit Tigers (1-0)                                     Miami Palms (4-10)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB ...

Left Field: Frank Sohn

Frank Sohn is the longest serving member of the Miami Palms, and is in his prime. He had a bit of a down year last year, particularly in the home run department, where his total dropped down to 20, but his double total climbed all the way to 45. He's always been an above average fielder, starting as a center fielder early in his career, which boosts his value across the game. With Edwin Encarnacion batting after him this year, expect him to reach his full potential.

Indians 4, Palms 3

The Palms were in every game with the Indians in their series in Cleveland, but ultimately, it was Cleveland who kept edging out Miami. They won the series finale in a game that was not as well played as the low score suggests. here were a total of 25 runners stranded on base, suggesting that the pitching wasn't so much good as it was lucky. The Palms got all their runs off the bat of Johnny Giavotella, including a 2 run single in the 4th and an RBI single in the 9th to make things close, but a 2 run Rajai Davis homer soelled the difference.  Cleveland Indians 4, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, April 17, 2016  Miami Palms (4-9)                                        Cleveland Indians (3-0)                ...

Indians 3, Palms 0

Cleveland was able to hold the Palms to 2 hits in their Saturday evening victory over Miami. Josh Tomlin worked 8 innings for the win, striking out only three batters. Oliver Perez in two innings of work actually struck out more. The Indians had a home run from Francisco Lindor as their biggest blast of the game.  Cleveland Indians 3, Miami Palms 0  Saturday, April 16, 2016  Miami Palms (4-8)                                        Cleveland Indians (2-0)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave ...

Indians 4, Palms 2

It looked like an easy win for the Palms after they strung together 4 hits and gained a solo home run from Coco crisp to lead off the game, but it was not to be. Cody Anderson calmed down and only allowed one more run, a solo shot from Carlos Ruiz for the rest of the game. The Indians were able to squeeze a couple of runs across the plate, an RBI single by Marlon Byrd and a sac fly from Francisco Lindor, but it was the bottom of the 9th with the game tied that the big blow came. Tyler Naquin hit his first career home run, a walk off winner for the Indians.  Cleveland Indians 4, Miami Palms 2  Friday, April 15, 2016  Miami Palms (4-7)                                        Cleveland Indians (1-0)              ...
