Palms 8, Orioles 6

The Palms and Orioles played a slugfest on Tuesday evening, with 6 home runs hit in total. The Palms had two of them, and ech scored multiple runs. Billy Dupont led off the scoring with a two run shot, and Chris Korb concluded it with a three run shot, giving him 5 runs batted in for the day.  Miami Palms 8, Baltimore Orioles 6  Tuesday, June 30, 2015  Miami Palms (39-40)                                      Baltimore Orioles (2-4)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player...

Orioles 9, Palms 7

The Palms were game for their battle with the Orioles in Baltimore, that was for sure. The Palms were down 6-1, but made a charge in the 6th. The Palms tied it thanks to a grand slam from Brett Hayes, but ultimately, the Orioles took the lead again with a big inning of their own, scoring 2 in the 8th.  Baltimore Orioles 9, Miami Palms 7  Monday, June 29, 2015  Miami Palms (37-40)                                      Baltimore Orioles (2-2)                                  Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      ...

Nationals 5, Palms 1

The Nationals had two big hits in the middle of the game that turned the tide, and the series, in Washington's favor. The Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three run homer in the 5th, while Tyler Moore hit a 2 run shot in the 6th. Tanner Roark held the Palms in check through 7 innings, allowing only one late run.  Washington Nationals 5, Miami Palms 1  Sunday, June 28, 2015  Washington Nationals (2-1)                               Miami Palms (37-39)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player ...

Nationals 5, Palms 2

The score made it seem like Stephen Strasburg dominated the Palms, but in truth there was a failure in execution for the Palms, who twice loaded the bases against Strasburg. For the Nationals they had hits and sacrifices whenever they needed them. Each team had a home run, but Wilson Ramos had a runner on when he hit his blast and the Palms only got  solo shot from Coco Crisp.  Washington Nationals 5, Miami Palms 2  Sunday, June 28, 2015  Washington Nationals (1-1)                               Miami Palms (37-38)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO ...

Palms 2, Nationals 1

A great pitching performance was definitely expected on Friday, but perhaps not by both starters in Miami. Max Scherzer pitched 7 innings and only encountered issues in the 7th, when Coco Crisp hit  a 1 hour solo homer, and later in the inning, Kelly Johnson had a bases loaded single. John Danks was perhaps the more dominant pitcher, collecting 6 strikeouts over 7 2/3 and scattering 7 hits to get the win.  Miami Palms 2, Washington Nationals 1  Friday, June 26, 2015  Washington Nationals (0-1)                               Miami Palms (37-37)                                      Player        ...

Yankees 2, Palms 0

The Palms were unable to sweep the Yankees in New York dropping the final game to a dominant Ivan Nova. Nova was able to pitch a complete game in his return to the majors after a year off to Tommy John surgery. Erik Bedard was perhaps even better, with 7 strikeouts, but one of the 5 hits he allowed was a Didi Gregorius home run.  New York Yankees 2, Miami Palms 0  Wednesday, June 24, 2015  Miami Palms (36-37)                                      New York Yankees (6-4)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   ...

Palms 7, Yankees 3

The offense is back! Miami was able to collect a whopping 16 hits off of New York pitching, which allowed them to be inefficient at driving those runs in. The biggest hits of the night were generally singles, including 2 run hits from Coco Crisp and Trevor Plouffe. Crisp also added a home run.  Miami Palms 7, New York Yankees 3  Tuesday, June 23, 2015  Miami Palms (36-36)                                      New York Yankees (5-4)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Pla...

Palms 7, Yankees 5

The Palms long losing streak is finally over, as the team brought their offense to New York for the series opener. Brett Hayes batted as designated hitter and came through as just that, hitting two home runs. Kelly Johnson added one of his own. Manny Parra wasn't great, but he did just enough to keep the Yankees at bay until Francisco Rodriguez came to earn his 20th save.  Miami Palms 7, New York Yankees 5  Monday, June 22, 2015  Miami Palms (35-36)                                      New York Yankees (5-3)                                   Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Angels 12, Palms 3

The precipitous collapse of the Miami Palms continued on Sunday, getting swept for the second series in a row, and losing their 7th game in a row. This was a slow burn of haplessness at the plate and a gradually increasing deficit until the 8th, when the Angels batted around, including scoring a grand slam from Albert Pujols. The Palms return home on Monday, but it seems that that barely matters during this stretch.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 12, Miami Palms 3  Sunday, June 21, 2015  Miami Palms (34-36)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (6-0)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Angels 8, Palms 3

Maimi's problems continued on Saturday, as the Palms lost their 7th game in a row. The Angels hit the big blasts, including 4 home runs, 2 from Mike Trout, while the Palms simply failed to push runs across the plate. They had  hits and managed to strand 14 runners. John Danks went through the game with a low pitch count, and finished all 8 innings despite the runs scored, likely sparing a bullpen arm for a tighter contest.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8, Miami Palms 3  Saturday, June 20, 2015  Miami Palms (34-35)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (5-0)                      Player          AB R  H B...

Palms offense comes to a grinding halt

Unlike in previous years, the limitations the Palms have faced in a recent swoon haven't been tied to their pitching staff. Instead, the blame for their past two weeks of 3-11 ball can be squarely affixed on their offense. In 14 games since June 5th, when they lost the series opener to Boston, Miami has scored 44 runs, for an average of 3.1 runs a game. They had a game where they scored 11 against Toronto, and removing that, they are only scoring 2.5 runs a game in their last 2 weeks. The problem, certainly, stems from their inability to hit for power in the middle of the lineup, but also, the inability to hit at all. Tony Abreu was white hot for the first two months of the season, but now sees his average about 70 points lower than it was in May. Frank Sohn seems allergic to the basepaths lately, and incapable of hitting for power. Nick Markakis is poised for career lows across the board in most statistical categoies, but the most alarming is his .215 batting average. The pitchin...

Angels 8, Palms 2

The awful stretch of baseball for the Palms continued on Friday night in Anaheim, the 6th loss in a row for the Palms. Albert Pujols homered in the first, scoring the first 3 runs of the game, which was all Anahime would eventually need. For good measure, Chris Ianetta hit a three run blast of his own in the 5th, part of his 4 runs batted in for the game.  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8, Miami Palms 2  Friday, June 19, 2015  Miami Palms (34-34)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (4-0)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave    ...

Marlins 7, Palms 6 (10 innings)

The Marlins batted around in the 1st inning, but the Palms were able to claw their way back into the game, dramatically tying things up in the 8th with a John Jason home run. The Marlins won it in the 10th, however, when Justin Bour hit a solo home run, giving way to AJ Ramos to dominate the bottom of the 10th, much like how the Marlins dominated the Palms through the series.  Miami Marlins 7, Miami Palms 6  Thursday, June 18, 2015  Miami Marlins (4-0)                                      Miami Palms (34-33)                                      Player          AB...
