Blue Jays 10, Palms 5

The Palms dropped their series finale with Toronto thanks in large part to their power hitting. They had 3 home runs in total, accounting for 5 runs, bit a bases loaded triple in the 7th off the bat of Russell Martin was the hit that scored the most runs. Martin also had a two run blast as the Palms lost this must win series.  Toronto Blue Jays 10, Miami Palms 5  Sunday, September 11, 2016  Toronto Blue Jays (11-5)                                 Miami Palms (73-69)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave ...

Palms keep slugging

Frank Sohn hit his 21st home run on Saturday, a reminder that he is the 4th Palm with 20 or more home runs this season. The number expands to 6 when considering the players with double digit dingers. There are a few players on the precipice of 10, while Chris Korb seems a sure fire bet to hit 20 by the time the year is over as well.

Blue Jays 12, Palms 6

Miami didn't come around at the platte until the 8th inning, but by that point, it was much too late. The Jays scored 6 times between the 4th and 5th inning, then doubled the total with a 6 run 9th. Toronto had a big 3 run blast from Ezekiel Carrera to give Miami their initially large lead, and batted around, with a Devon Travis triple making the headlines to conclude Toronto's scoring. Frank Sohn drove in 4 of Miami's runs.  Toronto Blue Jays 12, Miami Palms 6  Saturday, September 10, 2016  Toronto Blue Jays (10-5)                                 Miami Palms (73-68)                                      Player   ...

Blue Jays 4, Palms 3 10 innings

Miami was able to club a pair of home runs off of Marco Estrada, from Edwin Encarnacion and Pat Grant, and when each starter was out of the game, things went sideways for the Palms. It started when the Palms had Brian Matusz come in for a spot save, but he blew it. The next best Palms reliever, Cody Allen stepped in in the top of the 10th and gave up the go ahead single to Troy Tulowitzki.  Toronto Blue Jays 4, Miami Palms 3  Friday, September 9, 2016  Toronto Blue Jays (9-5)                                  Miami Palms (73-67)                                      Player          AB ...

Palms 7, Blue Jays 1

The Palms hosted the first game of a 4 game set with the Toronto Blue Jays, and were fortunate enough to see the Jays' starter Marcus Stroman struggle with his command of the strike zone. Chris Korb capitalizing, driving in three runs with an RBI single and a bases loaded double. The Palms loaded the bases again in the 5th, leading to three more runs. Odrisamer Despaigne continued his trend of productive starts, earning the victory.  Miami Palms 7, Toronto Blue Jays 1  Thursday, September 8, 2016  Toronto Blue Jays (8-5)                                  Miami Palms (73-66)                                      Player  ...

Tony Abreu's big series

The Palms took a 2-1 series against the Orioles as the came out of the Labor Day holiday. A great deal of their success was credited to Tony Abreu. He was on base 3 times in the series finale, which followed a 5-5 performance and a 2-4 game in which he collected all three of Miami's runs on Memorial Day. In total, he had a .750 average during the 3 game set. His .324 average now leads the team.

Palms 7, Orioles 4

The Palms jumped to a 4-0 led through 5 innings thanks to three home runs, from Edwin Encarnacion, Frank Sohn and Kelly Johnson. The Orioles hit a pair of 2 run shots off of the Palms bullpen to tie it up. The bottom of the 8th saw the Palms load the bases off of Tommy Hunter, scoring 3 runs to ensure that the game, and the series, didn't slip away.  Miami Palms 7, Baltimore Orioles 4  Wednesday, September 7, 2016  Baltimore Orioles (8-8)                                  Miami Palms (72-66)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Orioles 8, Palms 4

It was a rough outing for Blake Johnston, who saw nearly every bit of contact the Orioles had drop in for a hit. Pedro Alvarez and Chris Davis expanded on that, with each clobbering a home run. The Palms started to claw their way back, but a bases loaded triple from Davis ensured an easy O's victory.  Baltimore Orioles 8, Miami Palms 4  Tuesday, September 6, 2016  Baltimore Orioles (8-7)                                  Miami Palms (71-66)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave    ...

Palms 3, Orioles 1

It was the defense that came out to play on Labor Day, turning 3 double plays behind Manny Parra. The Palms also did their first damage against Ubaldo Jimenez this season, driving in 3 over his 5 innings of work. One of the pivots in all those double plays, Tony Abreu, hit his 25th home run of the season, driving in 2 of Miami's three runs.  Miami Palms 3, Baltimore Orioles 1  Monday, September 5, 2016  Baltimore Orioles (7-7)                                  Miami Palms (71-65)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB...

Palms 3, Yankees 2

Even with Edwin Encarnacion out of he lineup, there was still some power from the first baseman on Sunday. After a taut 1-1 game through 7 1/2 innings, the Palms finally broke through to take the lead when Kelly Johnson hit a two run blast off of Luis Severino, driving in Frank Sohn, who had led off with a double. The Palms needed that extra win, as K-Rod nearly blew the save, allowing the Yankees to score once while stranding a pair on base.  Miami Palms 3, New York Yankees 2  Sunday, September 4, 2016  New York Yankees (7-7)                                   Miami Palms (70-65)                                      Player...

Palms 10, Yankees 2

It was a bullpen game in Miami on Saturday evening, as neither starting pitcher made it past the 5th inning. For the Palms, this was by design, as Odrisamer Despaigne was pulled in the 5th, though not in much trouble. CC Sabathia was indeed in a bit of trouble, as he had control issues through his 3 innings. It was his bullpen that gave up a pair of home runs to Edwin Encarnacion. Nick Markakis walked twice and had a hit every time he faced a reliever. Even Willie Bloomquist had a three hit game. These feel good games are going to be key to keeping the Palms' heads on straight as they make a last dash for the finish line.  Miami Palms 10, New York Yankees 2  Saturday, September 3, 2016  New York Yankees (7-6)                                   Miami Palms (69-65)       ...

Yankees 5, Palms 1

The Palms unexpectedly found a dominant pitcher when they found Chad Green on Friday night. He worked 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits, with one of those a solo home run from Nick Markakis. The Yankees touched TJ McFarland for 11 hits and 5 runs through 6 runs, including some important doubles. Mark Teixeira had 2 of them, and Didi Gregorius drove in two with one of his.  New York Yankees 5, Miami Palms 1  Friday, September 2, 2016  New York Yankees (7-5)                                   Miami Palms (68-65)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB ...

Rays 9, Palms 8

The Palms and Rays could have left their pitchers at home on Wednesday afternoon, as the teams combined for 31 hits and 17 runs, as well as 7 walks. Neither starter was particularly effective, but it seemed like Blake Johnston was the more successful, until the Rays batted around and took the lead, scoring 4 in the 7th. The Palms collected three homers, while Johnston's control issues were the catalyst for the Rays, who scored 7 thanks in large part to his 5 walks.  Tampa Bay Rays 9, Miami Palms 8  Wednesday, August 31, 2016  Tampa Bay Rays (2-7)                                     Miami Palms (68-64)                                ...

Palms 7, Rays 3

The Palms defeated the Rays for the 7th time this season, thanks to a huge 8th inning. Down 3-2 going into the 8th inning, they took on reliever Enny Romero, and had no issues with him. They took the lead when Johnny Giavotella collected a 2 run triple, and was later scored on a John Jaso single. The Palms would load the bases and eventually add two more as they climbed to 5 games above .500.  Miami Palms 7, Tampa Bay Rays 3  Tuesday, August 30, 2016  Tampa Bay Rays (1-7)                                     Miami Palms (68-63)                                      Player      ...
