Palms 8, Diamondbacks 4

The Palms didn't get much from their starting pitcher, but the bullpen played well. Felix Gonsales ever got 2 RBI with a double in the 6th to go along with the win in the game. Diamondbacks pitcher wade Miley didn't go much further than Don Schoppe, but he did add two of his own RBI with a home run. It wasn't enough to overcome the hot Palms at the trade deadline.   Miami Palms 8, Arizona Diamondbacks 4  Wednesday, July 31, 2013  Miami Palms (65-44)                                      Arizona Diamondbacks (1-1)                               Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A...

Diamondbacks 7, Palms 2

The Palms hot stretch on the road has come to an end as they dropped their first game in Arizona on Tuesday evening. Ian Kennedy, perhaps in his final game with the Diamondbacks, improved his stock by going 8 strong innings, scattering 5 hits and allowing only two runs. The Palms were no match for the offensive output of Paul Goldschmidt (4-5) or Jason Kubel (3-5 HR, 3RBI).  Arizona Diamondbacks 7, Miami Palms 2  Tuesday, July 30, 2013  Miami Palms (64-44)                                      Arizona Diamondbacks (1-0)                               Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P...

Palms 12, Rockies 3

The Palms took advantage of the big field and the thin air of Colorado, scoring 12 runs with 20 hits. Billy Dupont and Tony Abreu each had 4 hits. All of Dupont's were extra base hits. Blake Johnston went 7 solid innings, continuing his solid stretch to recover from his terrible start. The Palms have 2 off days this week as they head to Arizona to continue their National League jaunt.  Miami Palms 12, Colorado Rockies 3  Sunday, July 28, 2013  Miami Palms (64-43)                                      Colorado Rockies (0-3)                                   Player          AB R...

Palms 5, Rockies 3

Gregor Blanco has 9 hits on the season, and 7 of them are doubles. Two of them came this evening in Colorado against the Rockies, including when there were two runners on base in the fourth inning. Troy Munoz in Colorado seemed like a disaster in the making, but he pitched 8 solid innings, holding the Rockies scoreless through 6 and earning a win, despite the B lineup in Colorado.  Miami Palms 5, Colorado Rockies 3  Saturday, July 27, 2013  Miami Palms (63-43)                                      Colorado Rockies (0-2)                                   Player          AB R...

Palms 10, Rockies 4

The Palms went to Colorado to play their second road interleague series of the season. IT was Kyle Blume's first game with a bat in his hand, and he performed admirably, going 2-3, even scoring a run. Calvin Hobbes had his first at bat, and it too came with a base hit and an RBI. In fact, Miami went on to have 19 hits overall, including a three run homer from Coco Crip, that helped end Tyler Chatwood's night early and prolong hot Miami run.  Miami Palms 10, Colorado Rockies 4  Friday, July 26, 2013  Miami Palms (61-43)                                      Colorado Rockies (0-1)                                   Player...

Palms 4, Yankees 2 (12 innings)

IT was a hotly contested series in Miami, but the Palms took it 3-1 by coming out on top on Thursday evening. The Palms struck only in the 1st and 12th innings, and both times with two run homers. It was Steve Drysdale in the 1st, hitting his team leading 25th blast of the season. Sandwiched around 2 solo home runs and 10 innings of baseball, Chris Korb came up in the bottom half of the 12th and walked off a winner with his 5th home run of the season, this one coming off of Boone Logan. After his terrible effort on Wednesday, Ivan Fernandez locked down the 12th to earn the win.  Miami Palms 4, New York Yankees 2  Thursday, July 25, 2013  New York Yankees (5-6)                                   Miami Palms (61-43)               ...

The Palms owning July

Even though Miami dropped this evening's game to divisional rival New York, it was only their 4th loss of the month. The Palms saw a 6 game winning streak snapped by the Yankees' come back victory, but before that, they had a 7 game winning streak, meaning before their game against the Yankees, they were on a 13-1 streak. It's streaks like this that has led to the Palms being smack-dab in the playoff hunt.

Yankees 6, Palms 5

The Palms were holding on to a 5-1 lead until things came unraveled in the 7th inning. New York only scored 1 in their half of the 7th but the 8th was a bigger disaster. Lucas Harrell, who had pitched a great 7 innings was pulled with 2 out in the 8th, and Ivan Fernandez proceeded to allow a hit and a three run homer, bringing the Yankees' total for the inning to 4 runs sinking the Palms win streak  New York Yankees 6, Miami Palms 5  Wednesday, July 24, 2013  New York Yankees (5-5)                                   Miami Palms (60-43)                                      Player       ...

Palms 5, Yankees 4 (13 innings)

The Yankees jumped out to an early, dominating lead thanks to a three run blast off the bat of Vernon Wells in the 3rd inning. In fact, the 3rd inning was the only one in which the Yankees scored, which proved to be beneficial for Miami. Down 4-1, Coco Crisp hit a 2 run shot, followed by a solo shot from Martin Prado. This came in the 5th inning. It took another 8 innings for either team to score, and it was the Palms' Nick Markakis who led off the bottom of the 13th with a solo shot to walk off a winner.  Miami Palms 5, New York Yankees 4  Tuesday, July 23, 2013  New York Yankees (4-5)                                   Miami Palms (60-42)                           ...

Palms 9, Yankees 8

The Yankees knocked Troy Munoz out early thanks to a pair of home runs, including a 3 run blast from Lyle Overbay and a two run shot by Ichiro. The Palms worked their way back, batting around in the 4th inning, with a 2 run double by Frank Sohn capping things off and giving the Palms a 6-5 lead. Then, it was the Yankees' turn to come back scoring in the top of the 6th and 7th. The Palms tied it in the 7th, and gave it back in the top of the 8th. Then, with 2 outs in the bottom half of the 8th, Steve Drysdale put Miami ahead for good, with a 2 run homer. Manny Parra finally got the Palms the victory in a game that seemingly didn't want to end. A curious aside, Billy Dupont came into the game with 1 triple on the season and ended up with 2 more in back to back at bats. Tony Abreu added another immediately following Dupont's second triple.  Miami Palms 9, New York Yankees 8  Monday, July 22, 2013  New York Yankees (4-4)         ...

The Palms through 100 games

The Palms are nearly through 2/3rds of the season, and are performing at a pace much better than was originally anticipated, thanks in no small part due to their strong bullpen and an improved rotation. The baseball trade deadline is only a couple of weeks away , and with the Palms clearly being contenders, the market has been curiously quiet. The two most tradeable prospects are Chris Korb and Kyle Blume, given their rookie status. Of course, Blume is the best pitcher on the staff this season, and the rotation is the weakest point of the team. With only some tweaks needing to be made, don't expect Korb to get moved either. Miami has gone 17-4 in their last 21 games, the second major winning stretch of the season, and it has them back in position to reach the post season. They are 2 games back of the division leading Red Sox, and only in the 2nd spot in the Wild Card race by half a game. With 62 games left, they certainly aren't going to start counting their chickens yet, but...

Palms 6, Angels 4

The Angels put in a scare in the bottom of the 9th, scoring two off of Tim Byrdak on an Albert Pujols home run, and loading the bases after Manny Parra came in with 2 outs. The Palms used three homers to secure their lead and eventual victory, as Coco Crisp led off the game with a solo bomb and Frank Sohn and Kelly Johnson added 2 run shots. The Palms officially started the post all-star stretch with a sweep.  Miami Palms 6, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 4  Sunday, July 21, 2013  Miami Palms (58-42)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (0-3)                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P ...

Palms go 3-4 in the All Star Game.

The Palms had three players selected for the All Star game this year, and all three were able to get in the game and contribute. Steve Drysdale went 2-2 with a pair of singles, and Frank Sohn had single of this own. Martin Prado was the only Palms player to be retired, grounding out to third. The victory was key for the Palms, because they stand poised to make a run through the post season this year, and World Series home field advantage could come into play. Not that Miami is looking that far ahead quite yet.

Palms 7, Angels 3

The Palms and Angels had a tight affair through most of the game, but Miami had a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 8th. Ivan Fernandez came into the game in relief of Don Schoppe, but immediately allowed a walk, single and game tying double from Josh Hamilton. In the top of the 9th, the Palms came back. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Brett Hayes hit the go ahead 2 run single. 3 batters later, Steve Drysdale drove in two more, meaning Fernandez got the win despite blowing a save.  Miami Palms 7, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3  Saturday, July 20, 2013  Miami Palms (57-42)                                      Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (0-2)                      Player ...
