Palms 6, Orioles 4

Miami jumped to an early lead, thanks to a two run homer from Pat Grant in the first inning, with a solo shot from Nick Markakis extending the lead. Baltimore stormed back with 3 run 6th to take a 4-3 lead. The Palms tied it again in the 7th, but it was with two outs in the bottom of the 9th that Nick Markakis stepped up and hit the Palms' first walk off home run of the season, and his third blast in the last two games.   Miami Palms 6, Baltimore Orioles 4  Friday, July 5, 2019      Baltimore Orioles (6-8)                                  Miami Palms (44-46)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R...

Palms 3, Orioles 2

Erick Fedde had some control issues in the first inning, and allowed a run, throwing 28 pitches, but he settled in nicely, and ended up working for 7 frames and allowed only one more run. The Palms scored in the bottom of the inning, and a Nick Markakis 2 run homer provided the needed production to secure victory. The Orioles made the top of the 9th interesting, but  Jonathan Villar grounded into a game ending double play, giving fans the rest of the evening to enjoy the 4th of July.  Miami Palms 3, Baltimore Orioles 2  Thursday, July 4, 2019      Baltimore Orioles (6-7)                                  Miami Palms (43-46)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave...

Palms 11, Red Sox 4

The Palms got rid of the bad taste of getting swept at home by the Yankees and went to Fenway and completed the hurt they put on the Red Sox. Miami was up 6-0 when the Red Sox landed their only blow, a JD Martinez grand slam. Every member of the Palms lineup had a hit, and everyone either had an RBI or a run. The Palms hope they can maintain this momentum as they start their last series before the break, with three at home against the Orioles.  Miami Palms 11, Boston Red Sox 4  Wednesday, July 3, 2019      Miami Palms (42-46)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-4)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player    ...

Palms 13, Red Sox 4

Miami inflicted a lot of damage on their AL East rivals, scoring a season high run total while collecting 20 hits, including 3 home runs. Nick Markakis' came first and was the biggest blow, a three run blast in the 3rd inning. Miami put up crooked numbers 4 more times, while Manny Parra cruised through 7 innings before becoming a bit unmoored in the 8th. No matter, as he surely had enough run support.  Miami Palms 13, Boston Red Sox 4  Tuesday, July 2, 2019      Miami Palms (41-46)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-3)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Palms 6, Red Sox 2

Miami made excellent use of the long ball, including three solo home runs in the 5th inning to take the opener at Fenway. Matt Koch, Yairo Munoz and Nick Markakis homered in the 5th, and Jaspero Gonzalez added a two run blast in the 8th to salt the game away. Jarod Lantz's solid 8 innings of work were rewarded with the W.  Miami Palms 6, Boston Red Sox 2  Monday, July 1, 2019      Miami Palms (40-46)                                      Boston Red Sox (3-2)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave        ------...

Palms will get only one all star

While the All Star game is still more than a week away, it appears as though the all star lineups are set, and Miami, probably deservedly, will only be represented by one player, pitcher Manny Parra. Some players, like Yairo Munoz or Nick Markakis are having excellent years, and Yasmani Grandal could certainly make a case for making it as a catcher, but Grandal is limited by a strong catching crop in the American League. A major part of the issue, of course, is the team’s lack of success. They will tinker with the lineup starting on Monday in Boston, in the hopes of finding some kind of a spark

Yankees 6, Palms 5

The Palms got a couple of clutch, go ahead home runs from Jaspero Gonzalez and Chris Korb at different points in the game gave the Palms some confidence that they might be able to reclaim at least a game to avoid a sweep against the bombers. Unfortunately, it was Gio Urshela's 3 run go ahead home run that decided the difference in the game. It was Chris Martin's first allowed home run, and his first blown save.  New York Yankees 6, Miami Palms 5  Sunday, June 30, 2019      New York Yankees (8-4)                                   Miami Palms (39-46)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB ...

Yankees 6, Palms 4 (11 innings)

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th, Jaspero Gonzalez led off with a solo home run off of Aroldis Chapman to bring the game level. The Yankees scored in the top of the 10th, but then in the bottom of the frame, Wellington Castillo had an RBI single to bring the game back level. There was no answer, however, when Brett Gardner hit a two run home run in the top of the 11th, to give the Yankees the win.  New York Yankees 6, Miami Palms 4  Saturday, June 29, 2019      New York Yankees (7-4)                                   Miami Palms (39-45)                                       Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO...

Halfway Home

The Palms got off to a terrible start that threatened to set the tone for the season .It’s clear that this squad isn’t necessarily a championship contender, but it’s play since April has been significantly better, and through the halfway point of the season ,they only sit a handful of games out of first place. Of course, the AL East is very strong this year, undoubtedly a factor in Miami’s struggles, and it will require a herculean effort to get back into contention. Still, a good second half, especially for some of the younger players on the team, could set the table for a better year next season .
