Palms 6, Tigers 4

The Tigers were able to get to starter Jarod Lantz, but found the bullpen quite impenetrable. The pen, after Lantz gave up 4 runs in 4 innings, mowed through the Tigers, pitching 5 innings of 1 hit, no run baseball. The Palms offense also managed to strike back. After scoring their first 4 runs on 3 home runs, they keyed off of a 1 out double from Tony Abreu and smacked around Francisco Liriano to score twice and go ahead in the 7th.  Miami Palms 6, Detroit Tigers 4  Friday, September 21, 2018      Miami Palms (88-65)                                      Detroit Tigers (1-4)                                   ...

Time is running out

The Palms' recent hot streak oesn't look like it will be enough. They are currently in 3rd place in the AL East and 8 games behind the Yankees. They also sit 6 games behind the Oakland A's for the wild card. all with only 9 games left. Not a lot of hope remains for the Palms, but at least they hold a game advantage over their cross state rivals, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Palms 9, Tigers 0

The Tigers haven't had much to play for in the last few weeks, and they sure looked like it on Wednesday. They only managed 2 hits across the game against Blake Johnston, while the Palms were able to build their lead through the game. Edwin Encarnacion and Brett Hayes each had two run homers, but the biggest detriment for Detroit were the 10 walks Miami was able to draw.  Miami Palms 9, Detroit Tigers 0  Thursday, September 20, 2018      Miami Palms (87-65)                                      Detroit Tigers (1-3)                                     Player        ...

Palms 5, Rays 4 (12 innings)

The Palms never trailed after the 4th inning, when a Tony Abreu sac fly put the Palms ahead, but the Rays kept battlng back. They scored the tying run first in the 6th when Lucas Harrell walked in a run, and again they scored on a bases loaded walk from Brian Matusz in the bottom of the 9th. The Palms would have the last laugh, as Nick Markakis drove in Carlos Ruiz. The Rays had a runner on third again at the end of the game, but the Palms were able to sneak out with the sweep,  Miami Palms 5, Tampa Bay Rays 4  Wednesday, September 19, 2018      Miami Palms (86-65)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (4-8)                           ...

Palms 10, Rays 9

Tampa Bay had this game fully in their hands. They clobbered Dylan Bundy, scoring 8 times between the 4th and 5th inning, and carried a 9-3 lead into the 9th inning. The Palms weren't going to give up that easily though. They scored a three times, including a pair of runs from an Edwin Encarnacion single, but were still down three with two on when Jaspero Gonzalez came to the plate. He tied the game with a 3 run blast, and was promptly followed by Chris Korb, who hit the go ahead, solo homer off of Ryne Stanek. It was Korb's second home run of the game, and enough to cap the huge Miami comeback over their cross state rivals.  Miami Palms 10, Tampa Bay Rays 9  Tuesday, September 18, 2018      Miami Palms (85-65)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (4-7)  ...

Palms 11, Rays 9

Fans of pitching, avert your eyes. The Palms and Rays collectively hit 35 hits, including 7 home runs. It was Travis Jankowski's 8th of the season in the 5th that put Miami ahead for good, not that Tampa would give up. Each team, with 20 runs scored, also churned through their bullpen. This may have been Manny Parra's toughest outing of the year, allowing 6 runs in 4 innings.  Miami Palms 11, Tampa Bay Rays 9  Monday, September 17, 2018      Miami Palms (84-65)                                      Tampa Bay Rays (4-6)                                     Player       ...

Palms 3, Blue Jays 1

Miami was able to salvage a game from the Blue Jays at the end of their 3 game set at Palms Park. Jarod Lantz worked an efficient 9 innings, with three strikouts, but 8 hits. The Palms had 12 hits, but failed to execute with runners on base far too often. They strung together hits in the 3rd to collect 2 runs, while a Tony Abreu triple in the 6th led to the final run for Miami, but Miami was left wanting at other points in the game.  Miami Palms 3, Toronto Blue Jays 1  Sunday, September 16, 2018      Toronto Blue Jays (7-9)                                  Miami Palms (83-65)                                      Player...

Hayes looks clear to win the batting title

After a very slow start to the season, Brett Hayes has come on strong, and looks set to coast to the batting title. He is presently hitting above .340, with the closest competition, Chicago's Tim Anderson, lingering around .335. With slightly more than a dozen games remaining, Hayes looks like he may end up with some very nice hardware.

Blue Jays 6, Palms 3

Toronto hit 4 solo home runs off of the Palms pitching staff, including three off of Blake Johnston in the 5th alone. The Blue Jays went into the 9th with a 6-0 lead, but the Palms weer able to claw back a few runs in the bottom of the frame, but Toronto's big bats were too much to overcome.  Toronto Blue Jays 6, Miami Palms 3  Saturday, September 15, 2018      Toronto Blue Jays (7-8)                                  Miami Palms (82-65)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave   ...

Blue Jays 4, Palms 0

Marco Estrada, Taylor Guerrieri and Jordan Shafer were by no means great on Friday evening, but they received a helping hand from the Palms. They stranded 11 runners on base, wtih 7 of them coming from the heart of the order. The Blue Jays were able to scrape a few runs across the board, including a solo home run from Luke Maile, but Miami will believe it shouldn't have been enough.  Toronto Blue Jays 4, Miami Palms 0  Friday, September 14, 2018      Toronto Blue Jays (6-8)                                  Miami Palms (82-64)                                      Player        ...

Palms 12. Orioles 2

Things didn't look good from the outset for Miami. The Orioles were up 2-0 before the Palms could record an out, and in the top of the 2nd, the O's loaded the bases again. This time, Dylan Bundy kept the O's at bay, and his offense started to come alive. Chris Korb and Nick Markakis hit solo home runs to tie the game by the end of the 3rd, but it was the 5th inning that flipped the game upside down. The Palms sent 12 to the plate and scored 9 times, but the inning could be summed up by a bases clearing triple from Pat Grant, and a 3 run home run from Carlos Ruiz. After that, the Orioles never stood a chance.  Miami Palms 12, Baltimoe Orioles 2  Wednesday, September 12, 2018      Baltimoe Orioles (7-7)                                   Miami Palms (82-63)       ...

Orioles 4, Palms 1

Miami was unable to get anything going against the Orioles on Tuesday evening. The Orioles weren't much better, but they did collect a 2 run homer in the 8th from Adam Jones to put some distance between the two teams.  Baltimoe Orioles 4, Miami Palms 1  Tuesday, September 11, 2018      Baltimoe Orioles (7-6)                                   Miami Palms (81-63)                                      Player          AB R  H BI BB SO  P  A  E LOB   Ave      Player          AB...
