Nick Markakis is raking

As of right now, Nick Markakis is the team leader in OPS. He isn't the top in slugging percentage (that would be Frank Sohn) and he is even further down the list in on base percentage (Martin Prado and Carlos Ruiz rate higher) but he maintains the top spot on the team. Unfortunately, due to the wealth of talent in the corner outfield, Markakis didn't get a spot in the all star game. It also hurt that he has put on such a show only AFTER voting was over. In his last 10 games, Nick Markakis is batting .459 with 4 home runs and 13 RBI.

Verdugo, Red Sox Pummel Palms in Series Opener

Alex Verdugo went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and the Red Sox racked up 16 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Miami Palms at Coca-Cola Palms Park. The loss snapped Miami’s four-game win streak and featured a forgettable debut for newly called-up reliever Allan Persons, who gave up three runs on five hits in a single inning of work. Boston wasted no time, tagging Palms starter Blake Johnston for three runs in the opening frame, thanks to a pair of RBI hits from Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland.
