Parra Silences Braves as Palms Cruise to Series-Closing Shutout
MIAMI — After two days of momentum swings and long balls, the Miami Palms closed out their three-game set with Atlanta by taking the bats out of the Braves’ hands entirely.
Behind eight brilliant innings from Manny Parra, the Palms shut out Atlanta 4–0 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Palms Park, winning the series and heading into an off day with a 36–31 record and a sense that this club is beginning to find its footing.
Parra was in complete control from the first pitch. The veteran left-hander allowed just one hit over eight scoreless innings, striking out eight and walking two. Atlanta never advanced a runner past second base while he was in the game.
“That’s the version of Manny we know is in there,” manager Scott Hatteberg said. “He worked both sides, stayed ahead, and never let them breathe.”
Miami struck first in the third inning, using patience and timely contact to manufacture runs. Emilio Miranda, making just his fifth start since being called up from Jackson, set the table for a productive sequence that included an RBI groundout by Chris Korb and a sacrifice fly from Matt Wieters.
An inning later, the Palms added insurance. Miranda again reached base, this time via another walk, and later scored on Pat Grant’s two-run homer to right, Grant’s ninth of the season, pushing the lead to 4–0.
That was more than enough for Parra, who scattered weak contact and consistently won long at-bats. The Braves managed only a single from Ender Inciarte, their lone hit of the afternoon.
Cody Allen handled a quiet ninth to seal the shutout, capping a strong homestand that saw the Palms take two of three from Atlanta.
The win sends Miami into an off day on a positive note before welcoming the Toronto Blue Jays to town, with the rotation beginning to stabilize and the lineup showing signs of balance despite injuries.
“This felt like a professional win,” Hatteberg said. “Pitching, defense, situational hitting — that’s how you stack series wins.”
After the turbulence of early June, the Palms will take Monday to catch their breath. The schedule won’t get any easier — but Sunday showed what this club can look like when everything lines up.
