Braves Ride Home Run Barrage Past Palms

MIAMI — It was one of those nights where the box score almost needed a launch angle column.

Eight solo home runs left the yard Friday night at Coca-Cola Palms Park, but Atlanta hit more than Miami, and the Braves powered their way to an 8–3 win over the Palms in the opener of a three-game series.

From the first inning on, the game felt less like a chess match and more like a distance competition.

Ozzie Albies opened the barrage with a solo homer in the 2nd, and Marcell Ozuna followed with two solo shots of his own — one in the third and another in the ninth — as Atlanta tagged Blake Johnston early. Austin Riley and Adam Duvall added solo homers as well, accounting for five of the Braves’ eight runs via the long ball.

“Every mistake was loud,” manager Scott Hatteberg said. “We didn’t give up many baserunners, but the ones we did, they didn’t stay in the park.”

Johnston lasted three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, before the bullpen steadied things. Morin, Shipley and Matusz kept the Braves mostly in check late, but by then the damage was done.

The Palms weren’t quiet offensively, though their power came in smaller doses.
Chris Korb and Greg Garcia hit solo home runs in the second, and Matt Koch followed with another in the third, briefly making the contest appear closer than it was.

Bryse Wilson settled in after a rocky second inning and worked seven solid frames for the Braves, striking out four and allowing three runs. Atlanta’s bullpen finished the night without allowing a hit.

Miami stranded seven runners and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, a frustrating combination on a night where contact wasn’t the problem.

“You hit three homers and still feel like you’re chasing,” Koch said. “That’s a strange game.”

Postgame Roster Moves

After the game, the Palms announced a notable rotation shuffle. Brian Kragh was optioned to AAA Jackson, and Jarod Lantz was activated from the injured list, with the right-hander scheduled to start Saturday night.

Lantz’s return comes at a key moment for a rotation looking for stability after a homer-heavy loss that served as a reminder: when the ball keeps flying, someone eventually has to bring it back down.
