A's 8, Palms 5

The Palms offense started to come around Wednesday evening. That was the good news. The bad news is that their pitching was less than stellar. Lucas Harrell gave up 5 runs, capped off by a bases loaded double by Yoenis Cespedes, all in the 3rd inning. Tim Byrdak gave up a run in each the 7th and 8th inning, while Pete Otterloop gave up a run in his one inning of work in the 9th. The Palms offense scored 2 in the 3rd and 4th, knocking Josh Lindblom out of the game, but the bats were silenced for the remainder of the game by a very good Oakland bullpen. Coco Crisp hit the teams' first home run of the year in the rth inning, a two run blast, while Tony Abreu led the 8th with his first dinger of the year. John Danks makes his debut tomorrow night, hoping to turn the tide and claim one game from the opening series.

Verdugo, Red Sox Pummel Palms in Series Opener

By Vin Castillo, Coca-Cola Palms Park  MIAMI — The Palms got a dose of reality Monday night, and it came in the form of a relentless Boston lineup and an untimely outburst from their veteran catcher. Alex Verdugo went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and the Red Sox racked up 16 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Miami Palms at Coca-Cola Palms Park. The loss snapped Miami’s four-game win streak and featured a forgettable debut for newly called-up reliever Allan Persons, who gave up three runs on five hits in a single inning of work. Boston wasted no time, tagging Palms starter Blake Johnston for three runs in the opening frame, thanks to a pair of RBI hits from Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland. Johnston lasted just three innings, surrendering four earned runs, and took his second loss of the season.
