White Sox 3, Palms 2
Sunday, June 21, 2020 – Guaranteed Rate Field

The Miami Palms had one last chance Sunday afternoon to salvage something from a difficult weekend in Chicago.
Instead, they left with a sweep and a lot to think about.
The White Sox edged Miami 3–2 to complete the three-game sweep, sending the Palms into an off day at 39–40 after a series defined by missed chances and quiet bats.
For a moment, it looked like Miami might flip the script.
Trailing 1–0 in the fourth inning, the Palms strung together a small rally. Edwin Encarnación opened the frame with a single, Matt Wieters and Brock Holt followed with two their own, and Greg Garcia delivered a two-run single to put Miami ahead 2–1.
It was the kind of situational hitting the lineup had been searching for all weekend.
But the lead didn’t last long.
Chicago answered in the fifth when Eloy Jiménez tied the game with an RBI single before Yasmani Grandal launched a solo homer later in the inning, putting the White Sox back in front for good.
From there, Michael Kopech took control.
The Chicago right-hander worked seven solid innings, striking out seven while scattering seven hits. Miami managed nine hits on the day and drew four walks but stranded ten runners, continuing a theme that haunted them throughout the series.
Starter Javy Blanco battled through six innings in his outing, allowing three runs on eight hits while keeping the game within reach. The bullpen did its part again, with Wandy Peralta tossing two scoreless innings to keep the deficit at one.
The offense, however, never found the equalizer.
Brock Holt and Frank Sohn each reached base late, but Chicago’s bullpen closed the door, with Aaron Bummer recording the save in the ninth.
By the time the final out settled into a glove, the Palms had dropped four straight overall and watched a competitive road trip dissolve into frustration.
Still, the timing of the off day may arrive at the perfect moment.
Miami returns home to begin a long homestand — and with it, a wave of reinforcements. Center fielder Brett Gardner and starters Dylan Bundy and Erick Fedde are all expected back from the injured list during the upcoming stretch, giving a lineup and rotation that have looked stretched lately some much-needed depth and energy.
The Palms don’t look like a team falling apart.
They do, however, look like one that could use a reset.
An off day — and a few familiar faces returning to the clubhouse — might be exactly that.
