🌴 Palms Walk It Off in 11, Outlast Red Sox 2–1

By Vin Castillo, Coca-Cola Palms Park

It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t quick. But for a Miami Palms club trying to claw its way above .500, it might have been exactly what they needed.

On a humid Monday night in Miami, the Palms leaned on timely power and airtight relief pitching to edge the Boston Red Sox, 2–1 in 11 innings, opening the four-game set with a gritty win.

A Game of Missed Chances… Until It Wasn’t

Boston piled up 11 hits, but could only push across one run—and that came in the sixth on a Christian Vázquez RBI. Time and again, they threatened. Time and again, the Palms escaped.

Jarod Lantz bent but didn’t break over seven innings.

“That’s kind of been the story with Jarod,” manager Scott Hatteberg said. “He competes. He doesn’t give you perfect, but he gives you a chance.”

Miami, meanwhile, barely cracked the hit column—but made every swing count.

💥 Power Keeps Miami Alive

The Palms struck first in the fourth when Chris Korb launched his 13th homer of the season, a solo shot that briefly put Miami ahead.

Boston answered in the sixth, and from there, the game settled into a tense, bullpen-driven stalemate.

Then came the breakthrough.

🌙 Encarnación Ends It in Extras

Leading off the 11th, Edwin Encarnación stepped in and didn’t waste time. One swing. One mistake from Martín Pérez. Game over.

A walk-off home run—his 13th of the year—sent the Palms pouring out of the dugout and lifted Miami back to .500 at 43–43.

“I was just trying to get something I could handle,” Encarnación said. “Didn’t think it’d end it, but I’ll take it.”

🔒 Bullpen Slams the Door

After Lantz’s seven innings, the Palms’ bullpen took over—and was dominant.

  • Cody Allen: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R
  • Jeremy Jeffress (W, 4–2): 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R

Together, they shut down Boston across the final four frames, stranding runners and preserving the tie until Korb’s heroics.

📉 Red Sox Leave Them Loaded

Boston will rue this one.

  • 11 hits
  • 10 runners left on base
  • Just 1 run to show for it

They had traffic all night, but couldn’t find the big hit when it mattered.

🌴 The Big Picture

This was a very Miami Palms kind of win:

  • Out-hit? ✔️
  • Out-chanced? ✔️
  • Still won? ✔️

They didn’t dominate—but they executed when it counted.

And in a season defined by hovering around the line, this one nudges them right back to even.

📊 Final

Miami Palms 2, Boston Red Sox 1 (11 innings)
WP: Jeremy Jeffress (4–2)
LP: Martín Pérez (1–1)
HR: Encarnación (15), Korb (13)

If this series opener is any indication, buckle up—this one might get weird before it’s over.
