Is Kyle Blume broken?
On the 2nd of August, Kyle Blume threw a complete game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He has also managed to compile several complete games, and only has two outings where he went less than 5 innings. To say the rookie has been used liberally would be an understatement. Part of the reason he has been used so much has been his success rate. Still, the question remains as to whether or not the work load was too much.
Since that complete game outing, Blume has had three outings, each progressively shorter than the previous. Taken cumulatively, he has put together 15 innings of work with 17 innings allowed. He has allowed 32 hits, 4 home runs, definitely a change of pace from how he has pitched this year. With the Palms preparing for the postseason, the Palms hope he can piece it back together in order to help Miami make a deep run.
