Jarod Lantz is having a season
The full statistical figuring may not necessarily give the numbers away, but as it turns out, Jarod Lantz has clearly been the best starting pitcher the Palms have had this season. Lantz, Manny Parra and Erick Fedde are all producing ERAs in the 3.00s, with Parra's 3.15 the best of the bunch.
Parra has had a very good year, and his underlying statistics bear that out. Lantz, however, has a better strikeour rate, and has produced a FIP nearly a full run better than Parra, and more than a run better than his ERA. If he was able to produce an ERA that matched his FIP, it is easy to speculate that he might be a candidate for the Cy Young.
As it stands, Lantz has been plagued with some late inning trouble, not entirely his fault, and poor run support. The metrics are good, but the optics are not. Continued success at this level, though, will be needed if the Miami wants to climb back into contention.
