April MVP: Nick Markakis, Right Fielder

Nick Markakis' numbers weren't staggering. He's only hitting .255 on the seasn, but his 6 home runs and 19 RBI often meant the difference between wins and losses. In essence, Markakis was the epitome of "clutch" hitting. For his contributions to the team's successes in the first month, even if he wasn't quite as fortunate in the losses, Markakis earned the MVP award for the month.

As luck would have it, Markakis was the player to be featured in today's player profile  as well. Markakis is now in his second season with the Palms. In 2012 Markakis hit .277 with 19 home runs as he played over 150 games in right field. This year, he isn't missing much time either. His power numbers are already up, having hit 6 home runs in April, though his average is down a few notches. Markakis is expected to provide a veteran leadership presence to a team that is infusing some younger talent in the lineup this year.
