🌴 Red Sox Erupt, Spoil Gonzalez’s Return in 15–9 Slugfest

By Vin Castillo, Coca-Cola Palms Park

The good news came before first pitch.

Jaspero Gonzalez was back.

The bad news came in waves after it.

A game that started with optimism quickly unraveled Tuesday night, as the Boston Red Sox broke things wide open with a devastating middle-innings surge, handing the Miami Palms a 15–9 loss in a game that felt out of reach long before the final out.

🔄 A Boost… Then a Collapse

Gonzalez, activated from the injured list earlier in the day, slotted right back into the lineup and picked up a hit in his return. The corresponding move—Jason Roeder optioned to AAA Jackson—underscored just how much the Palms value Gonzalez’s presence in the middle of the order.

“He changes the shape of our lineup,” manager Scott Hatteberg said pregame. “We’ve missed that.”

For two innings, it looked like Miami might celebrate accordingly.

Early Punches Landed

After falling behind 1–0, the Palms answered with a four-run second inning, highlighted by:

  • A two-run double from Brock Holt
  • Key situational hitting up and down the order

They added another in the third and briefly held a 5–2 lead, with Manny Parra missing bats early.

Then came the fourth.

💥 The Inning That Broke It

Boston sent 12 men to the plate in a catastrophic eight-run fourth, turning a close game into chaos.

  • Christian Vázquez led the charge with a monster night (4 hits, 5 RBI)
  • The Red Sox strung together hits, walks, and timely power
  • Miami’s pitching simply couldn’t stop the bleeding

Parra couldn’t finish the inning, and the bullpen didn’t have the answer either.

“We just didn’t execute,” Hatteberg said bluntly. “That inning got away from us fast.”

📉 No Way Back

The Red Sox kept pouring it on:

  • 3 more runs in the 5th
  • 2 more in the 7th

By the time things settled, Boston had:

  • 21 hits
  • 15 runs
  • Traffic on the bases all night (13 LOB)

Miami’s staff—so solid in the opener—looked stretched thin and outmatched.

💪 Offense Fights, But Can’t Catch Up

Lost in the chaos was a strong offensive showing from the Palms:

  • Pat Grant: 3 hits, 4 RBI, HR + triple
  • Ian Pfaff: 3 hits, continues to surge
  • Brock Holt: 2 RBI
  • Frank Sohn / Chris Korb / Edwin Encarnación: all chipped in

Miami scored 9 runs on 12 hits—a total that wins most nights.

Just not this one.

🌴 The Bigger Picture

This was the flip side of Monday’s clean, controlled win.

  • The bullpen magic? Gone
  • The timely pitching? Missing
  • The margin for error? Exposed

And yet…

They still showed fight. They didn’t quit. They kept swinging.

📊 Final

Boston Red Sox 15, Miami Palms 9
WP: Martín Pérez (2–1)
LP: Manny Parra (7–8)

🧭 What It Means

The Palms drop back under .500 at 43–44, and the series is suddenly wide open again.

But the headline remains:

👉 Jaspero Gonzalez is back.

And if Tuesday proved anything, it’s that this team is going to need every bit of his presence to keep games like this from spiraling again.
