 Nick Markakis returns to the Miami Palms lineup as a steadying force both offensively and defensively. Known for his consistency and contact skills, Markakis was one of the team’s most reliable hitters last season, leading the Palms in batting average and providing strong defense in left field.

Markakis had an impressive season, hitting .301 and slugging 20 home runs with 67 RBIs. His 44 doubles were among the highest on the team, often setting the table for the lineup and putting himself in scoring position. Not only does he get on base, but Markakis is also excellent at moving runners along, playing a key role in generating offensive momentum.

On the defensive side, Markakis remains a solid asset. With a strong arm and dependable glove, he covers left field well and gives the Palms confidence with his positioning and awareness.

"Nick’s one of those guys you can rely on day in and day out," said Scott Hatteberg. "He’s a pro’s pro—always prepared, always in the right spot on defense, and giving us quality at-bats. He makes everyone around him better."

Markakis is focused on maintaining his offensive production this season. "I feel good about where my swing is," Markakis said. "Last year, I found a rhythm, and I’m hoping to carry that over. My goal is to keep getting on base and to come through in big spots for the team."

Verdugo, Red Sox Pummel Palms in Series Opener

Alex Verdugo went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and the Red Sox racked up 16 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Miami Palms at Coca-Cola Palms Park. The loss snapped Miami’s four-game win streak and featured a forgettable debut for newly called-up reliever Allan Persons, who gave up three runs on five hits in a single inning of work.
