Yankees 3, Palms 2

The Palms fell in Game 1 of the ALCS in what was a strong pitchers duel. The Palms took a 1 run lead in the 4th when Carlos Ruiz hit an RBI double, and Miami held that lead until the 7th. Manny Parra had only allowed 1 hit through 6, but then he allowed a walk to Gary Sanchez, a single to Didi Gregorius and finally a three run blast to Starlin Castro, which would ultimately be all the scoring the Yankees would need. The Palms tried to come back in the 9th, but with Jaspero Gonzalez at the plate, runners at 2nd and 3rd were left stranded when he struck out. Game 2 is tomorrow afternoon.

Verdugo, Red Sox Pummel Palms in Series Opener

Alex Verdugo went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and the Red Sox racked up 16 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Miami Palms at Coca-Cola Palms Park. The loss snapped Miami’s four-game win streak and featured a forgettable debut for newly called-up reliever Allan Persons, who gave up three runs on five hits in a single inning of work. Boston wasted no time, tagging Palms starter Blake Johnston for three runs in the opening frame, thanks to a pair of RBI hits from Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland. Johnston lasted just three innings, surrendering four earned runs, and took his second loss of the season.
